Husky Kinder Happenings...
Weekly Update 18
Good Morning! It was my birthday this weekend, so the cupcake background seemed fitting. :) Thank you to my room parents for helping the kids celebrate with me this past Friday! They were so excited it was my birthday. They wanted me to have everything they do when it was their birthday. One little girl asked me if I was going to the office for my birthday spirit stick! This age is so cute!
Other than that, we had a busy week filled with lots of learning! We learned about hibernation and how different animals survive in the winter. They seemed to really enjoy this. The last day they each created an animal and we all put them into our "cave" to hibernate for the winter. Ask your child what animal they put to sleep. There were some clever ideas! We look forward to our animals returning in the spring! We learned about Martin Luther King Jr. and the importance of our holiday today. In math, we continued our unit on money and finance. Tomorrow we will begin composing and decomposing numbers with some fun, hands on activities! In writer's workshop we are still focusing on our Mo Willems author study. We have noticed how he uses lots of different things in his writing to make it interesting for the reader such as speech bubbles, photographs, interesting illustrations, fun and silly characters and lots of punctuation! They are currently creating their own books and some of them are mocking Mo Willems by using speech bubbles. Look for their stories in their folders! They will be coming home soon!
Istation (ISIP) testing- Each month your child takes a test that assesses their phonological awareness on Istation. This past week was a testing week and results will be sent home. Please do not hesitate to ask if you have any questions regarding this.
Take Home Readers- Please make sure your child is reading nightly to you and that you are sending their reader back when they are fluently reading and comprehending the story.
Book Orders- A special thank you to those that ordered. Our class had over $100 in orders, so this month the special was they will all get a FREE book even if they didn't place an order. Keep an eye out for the new book coming home! :)
