Where the Adventure Begins...
Happy Friday!
Happy Friday, families! Have you ever had a teacher or principal yell at a student for running in the hall? Or maybe tell a student, "Walking feet!" Well...this week I saw a student running down the hall and I didn't tell her to stop running. You have to know something about this student. When this student first arrived at our campus, she was in a wheelchair. She wasn't able to walk at all. In fact, just crawling was a struggle and her muscles were so underdeveloped and weak. But, this was a tenacious little one. She has worked hard. She has been persistent. She has been stubborn. And she has gotten stronger and stronger and blown away every goal we've put in front of her. So this week, I saw this sweet little girl running down our hall. And I didn't yell. I didn't tell her to stop running, or to walk nicely. I just smiled. My eyes welled up with tears and I just thought to myself, "We made a difference for her." And that is why we're here. Our impact with each student is sometimes not so vast or obvious, but please know that we are very determined in making a positive impact for every single child at our school.

I Want to Hear From YOU!
Many of you have posted comments, suggestions or questions on my Parent Padlet. Thank you! It is one of the ways for me to stay connected with you and allows other parents to see your questions. You never know when someone else is wondering the same thing. The cool thing is that it is completely anonymous! So post away and I will be sure to respond.
Just click on this link and you're on your way!

Please remember that the back loop of our school is for buses only!! When cars drive through, our buses cannot load or unload or move. It also creates a safety for students and staff that are back there. Keep all cars in the front and side loops only. Thank you so much!
The Counselor's Corner
Over the weekend, I was doing some reading and came across this sentence: “Hope is not a strategy.” I loved this! I paused to reflect on this sentence and how words can affect children. One thought that resonated with me is that I believe positive people have hope, but it’s not a procedure to reach a goal. Having hope when a plan is put in action can help with motivation. Hoping that something works out is an attitude—it reflects positivity. Don’t confuse it with the actual plan or strategy. The act of developing a plan and taking action (i.e. innovation, trial and error, surveying) solves problems. And, yes, having a positive attitude helps, but it’s also important to talk about the thoughts and actions when resolving issues. Children will grow to value both the attitude and the skills used to solve problems.
Likewise, using the phrase “I wish that…” can have a passive connotation, too. Although the phrase describes a desire for improvement, “wishing” for something to change does nothing. It suggests that the only option is to remain idle. Of course, there are times in which situations are completely out of our control, and we must accept an undesirable outcome. Nonetheless, it’s important to be mindful of how often we use these phrases in daily life. Our children are listening to us, and the attitude and words we use when confronted with a problem are important. When you choose to use action words to resolve a problem, children will see creativity, reasoning, and a plan in action. Our attitude can be described with hope, but children will likely see it as problems are worked resolved.
