Black History Month
ETV Channel 9 February Schedule
ETV Channel 9 (closed circuit to schools) is airing several special programs for Black History Month. These programs include:
A History of Black Achievement in America – this series documents Black Achievement in American history, its defining role in the growth of the country, and its influence on current events.
Eyes on the Prize – the award-winning PBS series uses archival footage and interviews of participants and opponents of the civil rights movement.
Slavery and the Making of America – This PBS series documents the history of American slavery from its beginnings in the British colonies to its end in the Southern states and the years of post-Civil War Reconstruction.
Crossing the Bridge – this program documents the 1965 civil rights demonstration in Alabama that proved to be a pivotal moment in American History.
Roads to Memphis: The Assassination of Martin Luther King, Jr. – This episode from the PBS series “American Experience”, tells the wildly disparate, yet fatefully entwined stories of an assassin, James Earl Ray, and his target, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., against the backdrop of the seething and turbulent forces in American society during the 1960s.
A Civil Rights Journey – A history of Huntsville’s civil rights movement as seen through the eyes of Dr. Sonnie Hereford, III.
Mighty Times: The Legacy of Rosa Parks – On December 1, 1955, Rosa Parks sparked a revolution by sitting still. Her simple act of defiance against racial segregation on city buses inspired the African American community of Montgomery, Alabama to unite against the segregationists who ran city hall.
