From the Principal's Desk
Newport Families,
Welcome to fall! It is a beautiful time of year with the change in the weather and the colors around us. This is also the time of the year that our students begin to fall into a good rhythm with school. They have learned their routines at this point and are focused on working hard in the classroom. Make sure to follow up with them to check in to see how their day went. This will show them how school is important and valued at home and they will want to do well to share that with you.
Progress reports were made available in the Parent Portal on Friday, September 30. Please check in with your child's teacher if you have any concerns. Additionally, Parent/Teacher Conferences will be held this year on Tuesday, November 22. If you haven't already schedule this appointment with your child's teacher, reach out to them to get one scheduled. We would love to meet with all of our parents to let you know how your child is progressing.
Please remember that safety is our number one priority for all of our students and it has been noticed that we do not have all parents/guardians following our drop/off and pick up procedures correctly. You must get in the car line to drop your child off and wait to be called over to the loading/unloading zone. No students can be dropped off on the road, across the road, or in the middle of the parking lot. It is very dangerous for anyone to be in those areas, so we ask that you continue to drop off in the correct area and wait in the line. Once we begin the process, it moves fairly quickly. Thank you for your cooperation.

Hello Newport Star Families,
I would like to once again thank all of you for your kindness & patience as I settled into this new position at Newport . I love getting to see all of the smiling faces walk in and out of the building each day and getting to know some of them as they come into the office.
A couple of notes:
If you have a cell phone, you can sign your student in and out using the QR code on the board outside of the school. We also have the QR code inside next to the sign in sheets so you are welcome to use that one instead.
Please remember to call by 2:00 if your child needs to be picked up rather than ride the bus that particular day.
We do have a lost and found in the building. We are already accumulating quite a few sweatshirts, so if your student is missing something please tell them to check the lost and found in front of the office.
Please, know that you can call me if you have any questions and I will do my best to answer them or help you find someone that may be able to help!

Hello Newport Families,
This month our character trait is Respect! Showing respect to our teachers, other staff members in the building, and other students is important while in school. It is also important to show it while at home and in the community as well and that is what we will talk about in school this month! We practiced kindness last month, so let's respect others by saying please and thank you. The old saying is “Treat others how you want to be treated!”
I will leave you with our monthly traits for each month, but we will have a reminder for each month in each newsletter!
November-Honesty
December- Commitment
January- Responsibility
February- Self Control
March- Confidence
April- Loyalty
May- Gratitude
October 23rd- 31st is Red Ribbon Week! The theme this year is Celebrate Life. Live Drug Free.™ Please keep an eye on their backpack as we will have fun activities planned and items for them that week. More information on that is to be announced!
Mark your calendars!! Monday October 10th at Zion-Benton Public Library, Kohl Children’s Museum will have their Mobile museum available for your kiddos! Enjoy the school day off with your students with this cool experience! The hours are from 9:30a-11:30a! Enjoy your 3 day weekend :)

Beach Park District #3 Elementary Student Handbook
It is very important that you review the updated BPD3 Handbook for this school year. You will need to sign off on the information contained within and understand how Remote Learning Days have replaced the Snow Days, of old.
You will also need to acknowledge that you understand when you should keep your child home from school if they are exhibiting any symptoms, as stated by the CDC and IDH. We will continue following protocols to best protect all of our students and staff. If a student/staff members is exhibiting any of the COVID-related symptoms, they will not be allowed to participate in the school day and be asked to stay home, or be sent home if they have already started their day.
