Photography Workshop for our students
On Thursday, Nov. 5th, photographer, teacher, author Peter Trull presented a photographic workshop to MRHS's photography students. Students took notes and photos of the lecture, while learning observational skills and basic photographic concepts. Two of most noteworthy concepts students identified were- "When you compose a photograph, you want to look at the entire image instead of just looking at the center", and "There is a lot of patience involved in Photography". "Don"t just take pictures, make them!"

Sandscript visits our Elementary Schools
For over 15 years, members of Sandscript (our creative writing club) have been visiting elementary school students to read their student-written and student-illustrated, child-friendly Halloween stories that are more about friendship than about scary sights. This year, we visited three classrooms at both C.E.S. and H.E.S.. Sandscript would like to thank the following teachers for welcoming us into their rooms: Janice Campbell, Sandy Hanson, Brandi Frommeyer, Amy Hirschberger, Molly Jacobvitz, and Amy Silvester. We had a wonderful time!! Thanks also to Mr. Burkhead for supporting our work. The stories and photos will be on display upstairs near Mrs. Doyle’s room. Check us out!
Welcome new Head Girl's Basketball Coach Peter Richer to MRHS!
Monomoy Regional High School is happy to announce the appointment of Peter Richer as the new Head Varsity Girls Basketball Coach.
Coach Richer has many years of basketball experience as a player, coach, and official. He understands the important role that academics play in the development of the student-athletes here at Monomoy Regional High School. It was clear during the interview process that Coach Richer’s core values and beliefs align with the Monomoy Regional High School mission. Coach Richer is someone who will be dedicated to the overall growth of our student-athletes, both on and off the basketball court. We look forward to watching his teams develop into leaders in the Monomoy community as well.

Outstanding Community Connection
Olivia and Emma Burke played violin this week at the weekly Harwich Seniors Supper Club at the community center. The supper club meets every Monday evening and offers seniors a low cost meal and a place to socialize. It was established several years ago after the tragic suicide of a senior in town, and the event is meant to bring seniors together to avoid loneliness in the community. Olivia and Emma (and oldest sister Abby- who graduated last year) have played occasional Monday nights for the last several years. They are scheduled to play again in December.

A Message from Mr. Cass
With November upon us, I usually do, No Shave November to raise awareness to Men’s health issues. I've been doing this the past 4 years and I have donated money to a Cancer research group. This year I thought it would be great to get our school involved to raise awareness not just to men's health issues but also to all Cancer’s, especially Pediatric as one of our students (Oliva Hart) is going through this right now. I am offering my hair as bounty, if we can raise $500. I am sure we will be able to get beyond that goal. Half of the money will go to help offset expenses that the family has to endure for traveling and the other half will go to the hospital Olivia is getting treatment from for Pediatric cancer research. If you would like to donate, there will be a container in the main office and if you would like to send in a check, you can make it out to Monomoy Regional School District for the Cancer fundraiser.
thank you!
Shark "Shout Outs" (SSO's) - MRHS's way of Appreciating the Great People here!
I’d like to give a Shark Shout out to Ms. Angie Chilaka and thank her for her 25+ years of coaching in the Girls basketball program first in Harwich and later Monomoy. Hundreds of young women have been blessed by being in her presence through many a Cape winter. She models the qualities of compassion, fairness, dedication and positivity better than any individual I know! Our young women were extremely fortunate to be coached by her and she truly will be missed!
Mr. Demanche
Big shout out to Katie Kelly for finding the company to display the Monomoy Lighthouse decals on the front and back door entrances to MRHS.
Another shout out to Mr. Houston for encouraging his students to attend Veterans Day ceremonies in both Chatham and Harwich.
Bob Smeltzer
A shout out to Mr. Cass and the students who did the live broadcast of the past 2 field hockey games - Eliza Hawthorne, Molly Doncaster, and Ben Thomas. They did a great job!! We had friends and family from New Jersey, Texas, and Connecticut watching the games.
Thank you, Karen Small
I would like to send a huge shout out to the Monomoy Football team, coaches and parents. I Have never witnessed such a bond between teammates. This past Friday night after the game, the football team gathered around their teammate whose mother passed away shortly after Monomoy won the game. The cars just kept driving into the neighborhood, sweaty, dirty teammates dropped everything and stood aside their teammate. I was so proud of these students.
Kerri Robinson
Last home football game of the season ended in a huge win for the Sharks! Special thanks to Charles McIntyre for making it through my senior night script as well as announcing the game.
Thanks to Paul Demanche for supporting and coaching the program up top, and also Kwon Faith and Lisa Forte Doyle for working the gates. Mike Martin served as my right hand man again and did a fantastic job.
Lastly, thanks to Taylor Murray for her long hours, it is very much appreciated.
Great to see so many staff members out helping us, I received many compliments from several of our parents tonight about that tonight.
Go Sharks!
Brendan Case
Congratulations to Samantha Peckham who won an honorable mention in the age 14-18 category of the 2015 Envelope Art Contest! This contest is an annual event open to artists of all ages from around the world. The winning entries can be seen of the Edward Gorey House web site.
Ms. Trull
We want to send a shark shout out to Ms. Police. Ms. Police gives great advice and always puts a smile on our faces. She is deeply kind and works so hard to help us with our college admissions process. We are so lucky to have her at Monomoy!!
Molly Doncaster and Laine Kotoski
I hope it's not too late to Shout Out for Ms. Donovan and Mr. Breskie for their dedication and talent as teachers and directors of Peter Pan! They did an outstanding job coaching and empowering the students through all the long hours they put in on this delightful show. The cast was enthusiastic, hardworking and kind. They all deserve Shark Shouts, whistles, stomping and cheers!
All the best,
Marianne Millette-Kelley

Young Women's Club Learns Self-Defense
The Young Women’s Club would like to thank Officer Paul Mellett of the Yarmouth Police Department (and father of Lindsey Mellett) for putting together a fantastic self-defense class for us. Many thanks to those teachers who came with him: Officer Robert Bitinas of the Boston Police Department and Owner/Head Law Enforcement Instructor at “Krav Maga Boston Cape Cod,” an Israeli Self Defense and Fighting School in Hyannis, and Instructors Katie Parache and Lisa Breenie for working so well with our young women. We can’t wait for their return in the Spring!

Athletic Department News: It's Keim Time! Jen Keim Signs National Letter of Intent
MRHS celebrated it's first National Letter of Intent Division 1 Signing today. There was a huge turnout in our gym to congratulate Jen and her family. Below is the script read by Athletic Director Case to honor Jen:
Good afternoon, I would like to thank everyone in attendance today for coming out to support Jen and her family on this special day. In a few moments, Jen will sign her National Letter of Intent to play golf at Florida Atlantic University, a Division 1 school. Before she signs, I would just like to highlight a few of Jen’s accomplishments over the past few years.
During her sophomore and junior campaigns, Jen was unbeaten during the regular season. She was 14-0 her sophomore year, and 13-0-1 her junior year. As a Boston Herald and Boston Globe All-Scholastic Golfer, Jen led the Sharks golf team to a 10-4 regular season mark, and then went on to defeat the entire Massachusetts Bay League Field for the individual title by four strokes. She also went on to qualify for the State finals, and went on to shoot an impressive 77 in the New England Championship. Her personal best score was a 69 at Trumps’ Colt’s Neck Golf Course this past July.
Just this past weekend, Jen placed 3rd at the Optimist Tournament of Champions at the PGA National Resort in Palm Beach, Florida. She shot a 76 and a 75 for a total score of 151 over 36 holes. We are looking forward to watching Jen serve as a captain for the 3rd year in a row, as she looks to capture the State Championship at her home course of Eastward Ho! in June.
On the academic side, Jen is currently enrolled in several AP classes, and is looking to study nursing in college. Jen is joined today by her teammates and friends, her parents Deb and Ken, brother Kenny, her coach John Anderson, and longtime supporter Jack Farrell from Eastward Ho!
Jen, when you are ready, please sign your letter of intent to play golf at Florida Atlantic University. **Pictured above**
Lets hear it for Jen!
