A NEW YEAR
"Rest and self-care are so important. When you take time to replenish your spirit, it allows you to serve others from the overflow. You cannot serve from an empty vessel."
----Eleanor Brownn
I hope that everyone had a wonderful holiday and most importantly took time to rest and renew. I love the quote above as it helps to remind me to stop and take care of myself so I can give to others. I hope that you took some time for you and are rested and renewed. I also hope that in 2018 you will embrace replenishing your spirit so you can give!
Wishing you all a happy and prosperous 2018!
New Semester...START STRONG!
The start of a new semester can be just as exciting as the start of the new school year. Remember not to neglect new start up best practices:
1. Start the new year as if it was the first day of school. Review your rules and procedures and create the structure you need to finish the year strong!
2. Do not start the year with the same stuff that wasn't working in the first semester. If you start the second semester and you are having the same challenge as the first, then you need to look in the mirror and reflect. For example: In my first semester scheduling my time was a challenge, I constantly found myself behind..reflecting on this, I realized, I needed to get back to some basic time scheduling practices I followed early in my career. With implementing these tried and true strategies I know I will be back on track in no time.
3. Get back to the simplicity of what matters the most. teaching! Teach a strong first lesson(plan for it and implement your plan). The first teach MUST be the strongest!
4 Relationships, relationships, relationships. You started the year with contacting parents, don't forget to reach out in one form or another to welcome them to a new semester. If you have students that you have not quite connected with yet, make this a first priority!
5. Last but not least...ENGAGE! No one wants to be in a boring classroom(you, me and not your students) bring a bit of excitement to your lessons. Make learning fun!
