SRC Student Update
December 2014
NEW SRC LAYOUT
Before the Thanksgiving holiday break, the SRC underwent a few changes: 1) study carrels were moved to the quiet area by the bathrooms and fiction section, 2) round, group tables were moved out to the large, nonfiction area, and 3) the nonfiction section was updated and reorganized to maximize the space.
Going forward, there will be a few more changes before the end of the year. The big books display will create a barrier between the conversation area and the study carrels, and my desk will be removed to make room for our own SRC Makerspace (more information to come soon). The SRC staff and committee would love to know what you think so far. Please feel free to share any thoughts, observations, and/or concerns.
Updated Library Catalog
The link to our library catalog has not changed, but the page does look a little different. If you would like to be able to login and create lists for your research, please email me.
SRC Bistro
I hope you enjoyed the SRC Bistro during finals. So far, we have raised about $250 towards our new comfortable reading chairs. Bistro snacks continue to be available for you during flex periods; however, the menu is more limited. I plan to continue and expand for the second semester final exams. If you have any specific wishes, please place them in the suggestion box by the newspapers in the SRC.
DONATE BOOKS NOW!
Book donations are being accepted now across campus to benefit Cops for Kids, HALO, and Open Wings Learning Academy. Please look for the large, painted boxes marked "Book Donations" in the US, PS, and SRC. A notice will be going to out to Prairie families in the next Sunday newsletter about the book donation drive. Now is a great time to sort through those bookshelves before the holidays bring more books and no more space.
2nd Trimester Book Recommendations
Each trimester, 3-4 faculty members will display some of their favorite books for you to enjoy. This trimester, the SRC is featuring recommendations from Dr. Coffman, Mr. McKinney, Mrs. Benes, and Mr. Evans. Please see the displays on the end caps of the shelves in the fiction section.
Also, our wonderful US SRC Volunteers have created a unique display of literature featuring strong, female protagonists to go along with the release of Mockingjay in theaters last week. They are planning something fun for this month, so stay on the lookout for some holiday cheer.
