News and Updates from FSMA
1000 lbs.... of FOOD
Yes, that is correct... our Girls on the Run Team has chosen to team with the "Move for Hunger Movement" as their service learning project and their goal is to collect 1,000 lbs of food. Canned fruits and vegetables, pasta, peanut butter, canned soups, dried beans and canned tuna can be sent in anytime beginning next week. And, if you want another fun way to support our Girls on the Run, join us at the Riverfront on Saturday, May 14th for a 5K.
Musical Experience
The Delaware Chamber Music Festival visited FSMA this week. Barbara and Christian began by introducing a violin and a guitar, pointing out their differences and ended with children playing them. The children were shown different techniques on both instruments, asked to snap/clap, moved their "wings" to the music, and created the crescendo as a class. They enjoyed the experience and many said their favorite piece was from The Ballet of Unhatched Chicks. Be sure to check them out at their free concert on May 7th (flyers will come home soon)!
Staff Appreciation!
Thanks in advance to all of our families who have sent in items and made big plans to help celebrate our staff next week. There are so many amazing people who come to FSMA everyday and help to create this amazing school. Teacher appreciation week is a chance to acknowledge the things they do... I encourage you to help your child fill in the star (see Classroom Communicator email) and if you have a special teacher in your life, make sure you let them know the difference they have made for your child!
Odyssey Teams
There has been so much excitement around this year's Odyssey of the Mind program. In just our second year, FSMA had 7 teams (thanks to the amazing coaches that stepped up to take on this incredibly important job!) and, we are not done yet. Five of our teams will perform for the school on May 20th and one of our teams will be traveling to Iowa for the World Finals - wow! If you want to see the performance that got our team invited to Worlds, come out on May 6th at 7:00 p.m. We will share about our team, our problem, and how we solved it!
