NOTRE DAME CATHOLIC PRIMARY SCHOOL
10 February 2022
Dear Parents and Staff
As of midday last Monday, we were putting in place the final preparation for our Year Six camp to Albany which was to take place next week. Then, early that afternoon, the Premier announced that school camps were to be cancelled or postponed. The goalposts had, once again, been moved, as I’m sure they will be again, as we move into the uncertainty of the journey ahead. Due to not knowing what the future holds and the difficulty of securing a booking for later in the year, we have been working on providing the Year Six children with a range of Perth based activities which will be completed during Week 4 (21 – 25 February). I viewed the proposed plan for the week, this morning, and it looks like it will provide the students with the opportunity to learn many new things, to challenge themselves and to have a whole lot of fun with their friends and teachers. We are currently finalising the last of the bookings for the week and hope to share information with parents tomorrow. I thank the staff who have shown the agility to adapt to the circumstances and have developed a wonderful week of activities that, I’m sure, the children will love.
ASSEMBLIES
As we are unable to have groups of parents attend events at school at the moment, we have decided to postpone all Class Performance Assemblies until at least Term Two. Hopefully, at this time, we will be able to welcome back parents so that they can enjoy the full experience of their child’s Assembly face-to-face. We will be increasing the number of Merit Assemblies throughout this Term, and these will be live streamed to classes, with parents receiving a photo of their children receiving their Award from their teacher. Parents will still be advised of their child receiving the Award a few days before it is presented.
STUDENT LEADERS
At our Carols Evening in the last week of school last year, the following students were announced as our Student Leaders for 2022. Congratulations to these students for being selected by their peers to represent them throughout this year.
Angeli Periyannen
Eli Alvis
Jasmine Koh
Lucas Lee
Kate South
Eoin Harvey
Isla McGruddy
Tiger Richardson
Tomorrow morning a special Assembly will be held to announce the Faction Captains and Library Monitors who will work with the Student Leaders and the staff throughout 2022. Congratulations to all who are elected to these very important roles.
SWIMMING LESSONS
Swimming lessons will commence for the children in Pre Primary to Year Three next Monday and continue for the following two weeks. Please ensure that you have returned all of the relevant forms and that your children have all of the necessary equipment for their lessons. Each year we end up with a lot of items in the lost property. Please ensure that your child’s clothes and equipment are labelled with their name so that we can return the items to them.
STAFFING
It was remiss of me in last week’s newsletter to not update families on the changes of staff for this year.
- During the school holidays Mrs Dianna Panzich-Sekulla advised me that she would not be returning to Notre Dame for the 2022 school year. We wish Mrs Panzich-Sekulla success with her future endeavours as she leaves our school after many years of dedicated service.
- We have been very fortunate to have secured the services of Mrs Joanna McCluskey to teach the Year 5M class. Mrs McCluskey joins us from St Columba’s School in Bayswater where she has worked in a range of roles including Physical Education, Science and class teaching.
- Miss Olivia Tana has joined our staff to teach the Year 3M class. Whilst early in her teaching career, Miss Tana has already established herself as a valuable member of our staff who exhibits a very calm nature and a genuine desire for all of the children in her care to achieve to their potential.
- Mrs Stacey Niner has joined the team in PPP in an Education Assistant role.
- Mrs Sarah Williamson has joined the PPM team in an Education Assistant role.
- Ms Madeleine Sy is assisting in an Education Assistant role in Year 1P during Term One.
- Mrs Thet Sandy has joined the team in our Outside School Hours Care, working during the morning sessions and vacation care.
I welcome all of these new staff to our wonderful school community and look forward to working with them to further enhance the great learning opportunities for our children.
OTHER STAFF NEWS
Due to permanently employed staff who may currently not be working at our school or who have taken on part time workloads, due to family circumstances, a number of our staff continue to work on temporary contracts. I am very pleased to announce that, due to recent staff changes, three teachers have been offered permanent contracts. Congratulations to Miss Monique Rognetta (PPP), Miss Erin Horne (Year 3P) and Mrs Naomi Martin (Year 6P) who all thoroughly deserve this recognition of their excellent teaching and dedication to our school.
SCHOOL FEES
The 2022 school fees have been sent to families today. Please make every effort to address these in a timely manner. Should you be experiencing any difficulty with the payment of school fees please contact either David Shumack (Bursar) or me through the school office (62727100) to discuss options. Please note that no child will be denied a Catholic education at our school due to an inability by their parents or carers to pay school fees.

A reminder to all Health Care Card (HCC) holders that discount applies to the HCC holder only. This discount is applied to tuition fees, amenities and building levy charges. PHOTOGRAPH/VIDEO/NAME PERMISSION FORM
As part of the school’s publicity activities, situations may occasionally arise when the school, Catholic Education of WA (CEWA) or local media will need to take photographs and or video footage of Notre Dame children for publication in newspapers, CEWA documents, training videos and or the CEWA website. This also includes images taken during school performances, activities and sporting events. Permission forms have been distributed to each student yesterday and we ask that you sign and return them by TOMORROW FRIDAY 11 February. Thank you to all the parents who have already returned the Permission forms.
PRE PRIMARY CLASS NEWS
What a blast the first two weeks of full-time school have been! The children have all settled in so beautifully to Pre-Primary and although it has been a bit tiring transitioning to full-time school, they are loving all of the different activities and experiences we have on offer.
Religion:
For the first five weeks of this term, we are leaning all about our own families and answering questions about the number of people in our families and how we can show them love. After learning about our own families, we will be moving on to learning about Jesus’ family and how we can use the stories in the Bible to help remind us to show love and kindness to everyone.
English:
Each morning when we come into class, we have been practising writing our names. We are getting really good at making sure we are forming the letters in our name correctly. It has been lots of fun completing ‘All About Me’ activities with our teachers so they can get to know the things that we love. This week we have started to revise our letters and sounds. We will be letter super stars by the end of the term!
Mathematics:
We are counting super stars in Pre-Primary! We have blown our teachers away the last two weeks with our counting skills. We have been working hard on number recognition and grouping and will soon be moving onto sorting objects into similar groups.
Integrated (Art, Technologies and HASS):
As next week is Valentines Day, we have been very busy creating some beautiful cards and craft to give to our Mums, Dads and other special people in our lives. We have used what we have been learning about in Religion to help us remember all of the different ways we can show our friends and family love.
Play Areas:
In PPM we are loving serving ice-cream from our very own Ice-Cream Shop! Our favourite flavours are vanilla, strawberry and rainbow! I wonder what your favourite flavour is? We are also loving constructing all sorts of buildings, cars, tracks and creatures from the lego, mobilo and magnetic tiles. I am sure we have some future construction workers and architects in our class!
We are very lucky to have our own café in Pre-Primary. We have been busy making coffees, cakes, and many other delicious things. In our café we work together to make sure it operates to its best. We are having so much fun learning and playing together.
We cannot wait for all of the other exciting things that this Term will bring!

LIBRARY NEWS
Library Lovers' Day 14th February 2022
Remember the wonder you experienced when you first discovered something as a child? Maybe it was an idea, a place in nature, new understanding, or the pure joy of becoming lost in a new imaginary game for hours.
This feeling of childlike joy is the feeling that we're encouraging people to remember this Library Lovers' Day through the theme: 'Show the love'.
It's a day to remember that our libraries are a place where we can get lost in an idea we are following, find an adventure we are seeking in a book, discover more about an issue we feel passionate about or get help from someone about something we want to know. These are all the reasons (and more) to celebrate the valuable roles libraries play in our lives and to re-engage with our libraries and 'show the love'.

P&F Update
Colour Run
Thank you to Sharmane in the office who counted up the many donations from last November's Colour Run. The total profit from the event was $7939.15!!! This is a great achievement from our school community, and the P&F wanted to thank everyone who supported the event. We can’t wait to start on the playground upgrades when it’s safe to do so.
Class Representatives
Thank you to everyone who has volunteered to be a Class Representative this year, and thank you to Michelle Carberry and Carley Chua for contacting all of the volunteers and assisting to develop class contact lists. Michelle Carberry, our new Class Representative Coordinator will keep the Class Reps up-to-date via email with P&F matters, and important school events, and the class email lists can be used for friendly reminders about classroom events, to communicate regarding lost items, and to help parents organise social gatherings. If you would like to know more, or volunteer to be the Rep for your class, please contact Nicole Beresford on bent_mb20@hotmail.com or speak with your class teacher who can forward your details to the P&F.
Night Market Cancelled
I’m sure everyone is now aware that the Night Market has been cancelled this year. The P&F will work with the Leadership team to look at opportunities to reschedule to later in the year if restrictions are lifted. Thank you to all of the volunteers who had been involved in the planning of the event towards the end of last year and over the summer holidays.
