Tuesday Times
Havelock North Primary School -23rd August 2022
PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE
Kia ora koutou,
Welcome to Lukaias who is a new student in Room 23. Well done on making such a great start to school Lukaias.
Out of Zone Enrolments
Very shortly the Board will be announcing the number of out of zone enrolments we have for 2023. In order to do this with a degree of certainty we need to know the numbers of in-zone students we have for 2023. If you have a child due to start in 2023 and have not yet enrolled them, can you please contact the school office asap. Thank you!
Daffodil Day
This Friday is Daffodil Day. Students can wear mufti and bring a gold coin to support the Cancer Society. This is not compulsory. Year 3-6 students will also be going to Anderson Park for a Cross Country practise on Friday, so please ensure any mufti is suitable for a range of activities. Thank you.
Tagging
Unfortunately there has been some individuals tagging the school in the weekends. Much of this tagging has taken place on the senior playground and is really inappropriate for young eyes.
To that end, we love our community using our facilities in the weekend as it often deters these sorts of people from coming on site.
Parent Evening -Year 3-6 Structured Literacy
Thank you to those people who were able to attend the Structured Literacy evening last week with Fiona Wilder and iDeaL Learning. We hope you found this informative. A big thank you also to our teachers for attending and to Toni Te Whaiti and Shona Burrough for coordinating this evening.
Have a great week everyone.

Big Night Out Thank You!
Thank you to everyone who supported the Big Night Out last weekend. It was such a fun night and together we raised over $29,000! Amazing!!
This money will go towards swimming lessons for every student in the school, as well as other development projects at HNPS, and 30% of the profit will be given directly to local charity, Thermals for Children here in Hawke’s Bay.
This event cannot run without the incredible support and generosity of our sponsors, so please take note of them below and be sure to support them where you can.
Home and School Sushi and Pie fundraiser
This Friday the 26th
Select Menu - "Sushi and Pie Menu HNPS" Order by 9am this Thursday.
The Sushi rolls have been made slightly larger but two are still recommended for older children.
Positive Behaviour For Learning
Focus for the next few weeks is...
We have had so many children leaving their jerseys lying around and our lost property box has been over flowing. Most jerseys have a name so these can be handed back. We are having a real push on children picking up their jerseys (and other belongings) and putting them away. We hope this push transfers to home also. Help us by encouraging your child to put their belongings away at home.

School Books
School Books.
We need your help!
Firstly, occasionally our school readers inadvertently get left at home. We really need to have them returned. Our bookroom is looking quite sad as we no longer have full sets of books to use with our reading groups. It costs a great deal to keep our supply of reading resources current and adequate in number to ensure each child has access to books at an appropriate level. So, please send in any books you may have at home.
Also, could you please ensure that your child returns their reading book straight back to their bookbag after it has been read - to help keep it from being damaged. As unfortunately we have had a lot returned beyond repair. Thank you for your support with this.

Enviro Corner - Week 5
Good Caps
HNP’s running total @ 18 August is:
Plastic 25 kgs
Metal 97 kgs
Overall, we have collected over 1 tonne of lids and caps so far from all schools involved in Good Caps.
Wow - all this has been saved from the landfill.
Keep them rolling in everyone.
Reusing and repurposing Tshirts in Year 3 Discovery.
Ms Washington has taught the children how to hoop weave old Tshirt strips to make cushions. The sleeves are used to make smaller wall hanging weavings. It is great seeing the children being the teachers and helping each other!
We’d love your old Tshirts - any colour or size. Please send them to Room 6 or 7. Thank you.
** PEAK TRAIL BLAZER – OPEN FOR ENTRIES **
Entries are open for the Peak Trail Blazer on November 20th. It’s been great to see so many entries in the last week.
We are encouraging you to get your entries in and please order your t-shirts if you would like one for your children or yourself as we will just be doing one order this year.
The Peak Trail Blazer T-Shirts can again be worn in Term 4 as school uniform. This year we are introducing a navy blue dri-fit t-shirt which will be more breathable for walking and running. T-shirts are going to be distributed at the end of this term. We are also running a t-shirt photo competition for the children with more details to come. T-shirts can be ordered at https://eventplus.net/PTB22. The final day for t-shirt orders will be 16th September, so please place your orders.
The PTB is a 100% fundraising event and we thank you all for your support. We are proud to be supporting Re-Source and HNPS again this year. You can enter the PTB at www.peaktrailblazer.co.nz
If you would like to support in any way or help volunteer on the day please contact Race Director Catherine Wedd at catherinew@bostock.nz or 0212886770.

Hockey & Netball Unison Medalists
Our coaches and teams had the very difficult task of choosing a Unison Medal recipient for their teams. These players demonstrate all our STAC values and are wonderful representations of our school. The best thing was each coach found the decision very hard as there were so many to choose from - ka pai HNPS!

Summer Cricket at Havelock North Cricket Club
We have just opened up our registrations for the next cricket season for any children and families that may be interested in playing Club cricket this summer, for the Havelock North Cricket Club.
We are now the largest Junior cricket club in Hawkes Bay and offer a great coaching and playing programme for all female and male cricketers. Our juniors love playing for the Club, learning new skills, enjoy playing 11-aside games and have lots of fun.
Please direct anyone interested in playing to our club website www.havelocknorthcricket.co.nz
Once there, please click on the Junior registration button and follow the instructions.
If anyone needs any help or has questions they can contact me.
