APL days
Ravenwood Team,
Moving forward with APL we will be aligning more closely with board Policy to ensure that we are fully staffed at all times at Ravenwood. Please continue to complete APL paperwork when submitting for days off. I encourage everyone to complete paperwork well in advance of the requested day off. Please check with me before requesting the days off to make sure the days are still open.
APL Closed Dates
Per the Board Policy GCBDA –
“The supervisor, may approve [Approved Paid Leave] (APL) for three work days or less for up to two employees for five percent of the total staff. This approval is based on the educational effect the total number of absences will have on the site or department and the ability to secure substitutes.”
To keep track of APL requests, the office has a calendar tracking dates. Shanie will send out an email when the dates are closed for requests.
APL Max Days Requested
Per the Board Policy GCBDA –
“The supervisor, may approve [Approved Paid Leave] (APL) for three work days or less”
Using board policy, moving forward I will not approve more than three days of APL. Any requests for more than three days will be denied and staff will need to discuss APL request with Mandy McKay-NKC Leave Specialist (321-5683)
Thanks, please reach out with any questions!

Show Me the Learning
For this pop up PD let's focus on PBIS. We hear about PBIS, Positive Behavior and Intervention Supports, all the time but what does it mean? Here is an article explaining what PBIS is? https://www.pbis.org/pbis/what-is-pbis At the core PBIS is a philosophy of providing consistent expectations across the school settings, reinforcing expected behaviors, and discouraging unexpected behaviors by going back to the school's expectations. PBIS involves common language, incentives (extrinsic and intrinsic), and celebrating! PBIS provides a structure for "how we do business" as a school that's framed in a positive way while also allowing for opportunities to learn, reflect, and grow.
How does PBIS look at Ravenwood? We have our 3 expectations. Students receive Dojo points for meeting the expected behaviors. When necessary, think sheets are utilized as an opportunity to reflect and plan how to be successful in the future.
Here's a quick video to explain what Encouraging Expected Behavior in the Classroom can look like: https://pbismissouri.org/effective-classroom-practices-encouraging-expected-behavior-training-video/
Fire Drill Feedback
- please close your doors with the magnet pulled- the doors are fire retardant
- know your evacuation location when exiting the building
- EVERYONE with a class should be holding up red or green to signify if students are accounted for (green) /missing (red)
- we will use walkies to clear each area of the building
