News From the Nest
Week of October 4- October 8, 2021
Message from Principal Honohan
Dear Audubon Park School Community,
I want to thank our APSK8 Student Government for organizing our Start with Hello Week. Students and teachers had a great time dressing up to match the theme every day, but most of all, our teachers did a great job of providing our students with opportunities to learn the names of others on campus and work to have an inclusive campus in connection with The Sandy Hook Promise. I look forward to seeing this initiative continue throughout the year.
We are kicking off October with a busy week! Both of our soccer teams have advanced in the Playoffs! Monday the girls will host Timber Springs at home and the boys will travel to Glenridge to face the Lions. Girls play at home 5:30 pm.
Boys @ GMS 5:00 pm. Please come out and support our Falcons!
Tuesday brings our first Band Concert, featuring Beginning Band, Beginning Orchestra, Percussion Ensemble and Chamber Orchestra. Mr. Munera and his students have been working hard this year and we are so pleased with the students' talent and progress. Join us starting at 6pm in the gym for this first concert of the year!
Wednesday is Walk & Roll and our Safe Routes to APS team is planning on a special morning event for our walkers and bikers! The gates to the track will be open from Falcon Drive and you're welcome to take a lap together. There will be music, prizes and a special guest on the track from 8:15 - 8:40 am. Our bus riders are welcome to get a lap in before the bell, too! I look forward to more families taking the Walk/Bike Challenge and help lessen our car line.
Thursday we're kicking it into high gear with our Hispanic Heritage Parade of Flags. Senora Goode and her students will be leading the way with 2 school-wide performances. Classes will also be touring the projects created by students in Spanish classes. They'd like to invite all students to wear colorful colors that represent one of the 21 countries celebrated during Hispanic Heritage Month.
A reminder that there will be no school on Friday, October 8th. Teachers will be working on report cards.
Looking forward to another great week at APSK8

STUDENTS ARE INVITED TO CELEBRATE HISPANIC HERITAGE MONTH INTERNATIONAL FLAGS PARADE, THURSDAY, OCTOBER 7th!
You are invited to celebrate with our Spanish department the Hispanic Heritage Month International Flags Parade here at Audubon Park School. The parade will take place in the cafeteria on Thursday, October 7th, 2021 during both lunches. The first show will be during the elementary lunch. The second show will take place during middle school lunch. Teachers can view the parade with their students. My students will bring flags from Spanish countries and will share with the students a little bit about each country. The shows will take approximately 15 minutes so everybody can be dismissed from the cafeteria on time. Help us celebrate by wearing your colors, clothing or anything that represents your country of origin. Here is a list of activities that you all can incorporate to your classrooms to prepare for that day. Hope to see everybody there. If you have any questions please let Senora Goode know.
