Week 22
We had a fantastic Bug Day at BHS today and all the children participated well in their casual clothes, donating to our chosen charity which is 'Butterfly Children's Hospices'.
Next week will be our Chinese New Year celebrations which include a flower market in the hall on Tuesday, China day activities on Friday followed by our Chinese New Year assembly which the Year 5's have been working hard rehearsing.

UOI
This week we have started our Big Business unit of inquiry. The children have unpacked the central idea to better understand the key vocabulary. They have also discussed what makes a good team, what are the needs of a customer in a marketplace and they were tasked with a provocation to advertise and sell a mystery object.
Next week we have our trip to Prince Edward to explore and observe marketplaces. We are also lucky enough to have a guest speaker coming in to present to the children about business and marketing.
The children will also find out which groups they will be in and brainstorming product ideas in order to survey potential target customers.
Maths
- Mrs Mac - converting fractions to decimals, percentages and pictures.
- Mr Dray - fractions problem solving involving money and shapes.
- Mrs Angell - equivalent and simplifying fractions.
- Mr Pheasant - converting simple fractions to decimals and percentages.
Next week will continue our new strand unit on Data Handling. Within each class we are beginning to explore a series of rotations involving: creating bar graphs, answering questions and reading different types of graphs (e.g. bar graphs, line graphs, pie charts etc.)
Homework this week
This week's homework:
This week we'd like the students to be mindful of the signs and advertisements you see in your daily life. Most of these will have a recognizable logo.
The children's job is to create a collage of as many different logos as they can collect. They can be photos, magazine cut outs, sketches or you can create a Google document to collect your ideas (remember to share this with your teacher!).
This will help the children to start thinking about logos and branding for their own business groups.
