Destination "School to Career"
October 11, 2021
Purpose
As a student progresses through the education process, keep in mind that the workforce is the final destination for all of our students. The path that each student takes to reach this goal varies but grade level appropriate career planning activities are essential to helping students discover their interests and aptitudes that will be necessary in choosing the right career path. This newsletter will provide resources to all teachers to help students along this journey.
Grade Level Goals
Grades: PreK -5 - Career Awareness - "Helping children discover the worlds of careers"
Grades: 6 -8 - Career Exploration - " Career exploration is a process of learning about oneself and the world of work, identifying potential careers, and developing a strategy for realizing education and career goals"
Grades 9-12 - Career Preparation - "College and Career Ready" "Students should be preparing for the pathway that will take them into the workforce. Including taking classes related to chosen career fields. This includes determining post-secondary training requirements for entry into the chosen career pathway. Students should also take the Pre-ACT, ACT, WorkKeys assessments, and complete all FAFSA forms and scholarship applications.
National Career Cluster Framework
The National Career Clusters® Framework serves as an organizing tool for Career Technical Education (CTE) programs, curriculum design and instruction. There are 16 Career Clusters in the National Career Clusters Framework, representing 79 Career Pathways to help learners navigate their way to greater success in college and career. The framework also functions as a useful guide in developing programs of study bridging secondary and postsecondary systems and for creating individual student plans of study for a complete range of career options. As such, it helps learners discover their interests and their passions, and empowers them to choose the educational pathway that can lead to success in high school, college and career.
