Welcome to the Prairie Point Panther Press!
Summer School Registration closes May 30th
Panthers on the Run
This is our 11th annual Panthers on the Run. Mrs. Warren started this as a healthy and fun way to leave Prairie Point. Many former students have joined cross country in Jr High due to enjoying this event and believing in themselves. The students work together and encourage each other throughout the event. This year the 5th grade ran 396 miles !!
Have a great summer everyone and G.O.A.P.E.
Noetic Learning Math Contest
Off the Shelves: News from the LRC
Thank you to Kaleb Stumpenhorst and Lindy Donavon who donated books to our library in celebration of their birthdays!
We had a record number of lost and damaged books this year - nearly 50. If you have a fine for a lost or damaged book, please pay as soon as possible. The fines will be added to your registration fees for the next school year if not paid by then. Thank you for your help with this matter.
Congratulations to our 1st and 2nd place teams in the Amazing Race contest. This is a competition offered to 4th and 5th grade students. This year's winners were Owen Driscoll and Carson Albaugh. The runners up were Bella Schoenfielder and Cooper Wynn.
Be sure to enroll your children in the Oswego Public Library's Summer Reading Program. Lots of fun events are planned at the library this summer. If you need ideas for reading, keep in mind the Monarch (grades K-3), Bluestem (grades 3-5), and Rebecca Caudill (grades 4-8) lists. These lists are selected by groups of librarians and teachers in Illinois each year. The 2019 lists, as well as the ones from previous years, can be found at the AISLE (Association of Illinois School Library Educators) website: www.aisled.org
Congratulations to Peyton Brolley and to Bella Schoenfielder (pictured) on reading all 20 books from the 2018 Bluestem list!
Have a great summer, and happy reading!

5th Grade Celebration
The 5th grade celebration was held May 12, at the Plainfield YMCA. 105 5th grade students were able to attend. They had the whole facility, pool, gym, game room, etc. to enjoy.
The committee would like to thank all volunteers who helped that night. Also, we would like to thank our sponsors: Storecell, Charley Co. Boxing Club, AC Hauling, Brooke Henschen, Realtor, Weichert Realtors, Melissa Yackley, Realtor, David Erickson, Edward Jones and Janna Misek, State Farm. Because of their support, we were able to keep costs down and offer lots of food and prizes. We would also like to thank our local Subway for being so great to work with.
Home and School Needs Your Help!
Home & School is already starting to plan for the 2018-2019 school year and the following Home & School Committees are in need of committee chair(s) or co-chair(s). Please take a minute to read through and consider volunteering!
The following committees are in need of committee chair(s):
Community Outreach
This committee will work with the school to manage the food drive, holiday giving events, and a possible spring community outreach event.
Field Day (Early Childhood)
This event takes place once a year, typically in May, right before summer break. It is a fun day of games and excitement for our pre-kindergarten students. The committee chair(s) for this event would be responsible for working with the Early Childhood staff to secure volunteers and assist with planning this fun day for our pre-kindergarten students.
Fifth Grade Send Off
The name says it all!! Organize an event to “send off” and say “farewell” to all of our 5th graders. The event is usually held in the evening, off campus near the end of the school year.
Fun Fair
This event takes place once a year, typically in February. It is a fun night for the family to play games like the cake walk and 2-liter pop toss. The kids earn tickets for playing games and redeem them for prizes in the gym. The committee chairs for this event will be responsible for organizing this event, as well as securing volunteers to ensure it runs smoothly.
Great Art
Great Art is a monthly program to introduce students to various famous works of art in the fun and accessible environment of their classroom. The committee chair(s) for Great Art are responsible for securing volunteers to go into the classroom to present about these famous works of art as well as all of the “behind the scenes” work done to prepare for the monthly presentation. Want to volunteer, but need to do most of it at home? This could be the committee for you!
Mother-Son Event
A Mother-Son Event was suggested by multiple people on the home and school events survey. If you are interested in helping create this new event, please email the board!
The following committees currently have a committee chair(s), but are in need of co-chair(s):
Family Fun Nights
This committee plans fun filled family evenings at various locations in the area and at school. In the past, this committee has planned events like Bingo Night at the school and a Rollerskating Night at the Aurora Skate Center.
Field Day (K-5)
This event takes place once a year, typically in May, right before summer break. It is a fun day of games and excitement for our Kindergarten through 5th grade students. The committee chair(s) for this event would be responsible for working with the PE staff to secure volunteers and assist with planning this fun day for our Kindergarten through 5th grade students.
Panther Fitness Challenge
This is our annual school fundraiser, held at the beginning of the school year, to fund all Home and School activities and, most importantly teacher grants. Students gather monetary donations and we celebrate our success with a fun day of fitness, music and tons of school spirit. The committee chairs for this event organize all of the fundraising materials as well as the celebration which occurs after the completion of the fundraiser.
** This event has multiple co-chairs, all of which only have one more year at Prairie Point. We are in need of people to shadow the co-chairs this year, with the intention of taking over the event the following year.
PAWSS (Parents Assisting our Wonderful Staff and Students)
We are in need of co-chair(s) and volunteers for this committee. One of the responsibilities of this committee is to sort and stuff the Thursday Folders sent home. The committee chair(s) for PAWSS are responsible for making sure there are volunteers to sort and stuff the Thursday folders as well as maintain a database of parent volunteers the school or board can call on for additional assistance as needed.
Are you interested in helping out on any of these committee’s? Please contact Prairie Point Home and School to get involved!
