What are we Learning?
In reading, we will learn how to build our reading stamina, briefly introduce the elements of poetry, and continue LAUNCHING our Reading workshop time. We are exploring a variety of topics in order to prepare for our future, more specific units!
We have been to the library! Please refer to the "Check for Understanding" note that went home Thursday to learn more about library time for us. Library checkout is officially on Thursdays!
Phonics/Spelling - This week we'll work on "glued" sounds. A parent letter will be sent home on Monday to explain those sounds. Students will practice sounds such as: ing, ank, onk, etc.
Trick Words (Unit 2): shall, pull, full, both, talk, walk
Writing - I am so impressed by our students' writing abilities! It has become our class' favorite time of the day. We are enjoying working on our new writing goals set by ourselves, working with partners to improve our writing, and working independently.
Math - This week we will finish analyzing bar graphs and learn about pictographs. We may also try a few word problems as well. We may send home additional homework for extra practice. Students are also practicing these skills on our IXL.com website. We do most of our IXL work here at school. However, feel free to refer to our district math newsletter for more topics to explore for Unit 1 Measurement & Data.
Social Studies - We have begun talking about what it means to be a part of a Community. Students will learn about their school community and their job as students to be respectful, responsible, and safe. We will also learn about our Neighborhoods and our family as a community.
