Dear Vikings!

It has been a great start to the school year at Jonestown Elementary! The smiles, fist bumps, passion, energy, and excitement from your students is contagious! With the start of the new year comes the opportunity to jump on board and get involved. Our PTO has great events planned and can use your help. Also feel free to check with your teacher to see if there are any volunteer opportunities. I encourage everyone to stay connected to the school as we know that your involvement has a positive impact on student learning and social-well being.

Follow us on Facebook or Twitter (info below) to stay connected and up to date on news and events! Standards Based Grading Update 9/6/19

Last year was our first implementation year for standards based grading. We implemented the new grading system in grades K-2, while remaining traditional in grades 3-5. With the success that we encountered, along with the learning opportunities from new obstacles, we are excited to move forward with full implementation. This year, we are going to be issuing our standards based report cards for all grade levels, K-5. We are excited about the communication and information that this shift provides to parents and we welcome feedback at any time. Below is a link to the Standards Based Grading Resource page on our district website. Feel free to reach out to Mr. Rizzo if you have questions or concerns!

Our 4 elementary buildings have created one online "Viking Nation" spirit store for parents, students, staff, and community members. Our goal is to flood our buildings and community with more blue and gold!

If you are interested in purchasing or sharing the page, see the link below. All orders are placed online and you may select a building you want the gear to be shipped to. All payments must go through the website.

If you are a staff member or parent outside of the elementary buildings, select the building you want it shipped to and we will notify you from there. The website contains store closing and delivery dates.

Thanks PTO!

During the first week of school the Jonestown PTO handed out a FREE Scholastic book to each student. The Jonestown PTO has a lot of great things planned for the 2019/2020 school year. Please come out on Thursday September 12th at 6pm in the Jonestown Library to find out how to help and support our awesome students, teachers and staff during the school year. Please LIKE our Facebook page to keep up to date with all of the latest Jonestown PTO happenings!

Mrs. Coll's Physical Education Class

Mrs. Coll’s Physical Education classes were welcomed back to school with getting to know you activities incorporating a pirate theme. The students worked in small groups using communication, cooperation, sportsmanship, and a multitude of physical development skills. They were turned into pirates-in-training for a day and had to go through a variety of stations to master pirate tasks. These included the following: The Plank Challenge, Collecting Treasure in the Dark, Firing Cannon Balls, Swimming, Riding a Dingy, Tossing a Life Preserver, Swashbuckler Sword Work, and Peg Leg Practice (Just in-case) . The student had a great time getting to know one another and demonstrating their readiness for pirate adventures.
