CSHS Back to School Bulletin
2017-18
Welcome Back!
Dear Cougar Family,
The 2016-2017 school year was another tremendous year for our CSHS, claiming multiple individual state championships, district championships, playoff berths, and culminating in a thirteenth place finish in the 5A division of the University Interscholastic League’s Lone Star Cup, given annually to the high schools with the best overall athletic, fine arts, and academic programs in the state. (BTW, this is our 4th top 20 finish in a row). We celebrated our 5th anniversary and continued to build on our foundation of having high expectations directed toward the success of each Cougar both in and out of the classroom. It was a great year!
This year, we have the honor and privilege of serving over 1,950 amazing Cougars at CSHS. Each student comes with his or her own story and special gifts. I am so excited to have the full Cougar staff back on campus working together to be ready to help each student Embrace the Journey when school starts on Monday, August 28th. The CSHS leadership team is working to design purposeful, targeted staff development with our learners at the forefront. We strive to continue to provide opportunities for our teachers to grow and learn in order to make an impact on student learning. Please take a moment to "Remember the Lobster!" from last year's PD (see videos below). Growth can be slow (and even a little painful), but we all come out better in the end!
I look forward to our time together in August for us to work together to plan how we will continue to PURSUE PERFECTION and ACHIEVE EXCELLENCE for each, individual Cougar. I can't wait to see you all soon!
Welcome back! And, as always, COUGAR PRIDE!

Room Use & Hosting You Matter
In addition, we are hosting You Matter for CSISD on Thursday, August 17. Please be sure your room is ready to welcome guests. This does not mean it is ready for school--just that you have put away personal items you would be concerned about losing. We will have NHS students walk the building to make sure desks are arranged in groups or rows, and there are no major messes that others would have to pick up. Thank you, NHS!
85th Legislative Session Updates
In addition, Texas Tribune is a good source for up to date information from the special session.
Updates to CSISD Social Media & Use of Electronic Media with Students Policies
These updates are shown on p. 56-60 of the CSISD Employee Handbook Online if you would like to review the policies.
Master Schedule
Your Schedule
Please consult with your department chairs regarding your schedule for next year. Remember, we build our schedule around student needs and requests and do our best to accommodate all of our Cougar students and staff within our constraints.
Course Change Requests by Students
In the last few days as students have been returning to school for a variety of activities, they have started to trickle into the counseling office to try to request a class that was not on their original course request. Several kids have said that a teacher has told them to request the change. Please do not encourage students to change course requests at this late date. We are not able to accommodate these changes because we build the number of sections of each class off course requests, and the deadline to change requests was June 9.Staff Shirts
