We're Wishing you a Happy Spring!

This is the poster we made for K-M School's Business Appreciation Breakfast to thank Kasson Nails for their support of our schools. Hands down --- I think the kids did a super job!

Math Minute

This has been a very busy week in math. Students were introduced to area and perimeter. We reviewed basic area and perimeter concepts such as; estimating area of polygons and counting unit squares to find the area of certain shapes.

Students also learned the formula for figuring out area of a rectangle, parallelogram, and triangle. Next week we will move on to calculation the area of parallelograms. We will continue working on unit 8 and begin reviewing for our upcoming MCA Test on April 27-May 1.

Science Snippet

This past week in Science, J-team classes continued working on the water cycle. There are many pretty cool links on Mr. Olson’s website that students can do to learn more about the water cycle that we have done in class. Look under my “educational links” tab. Also, towards the end of this week, students were introduced to the different types of clouds. Next week, students will learn more about clouds and make and identify clouds using cotton.

Social Studies Snapshot

This week, students received their study maps and made flashcards for the Western region states. The final test for this region will be on May 1st. We will review using the Yo, Sacramento book for mnemonic devices, and Mrs. Southwick also created a Kahoot! for review on our iPads. The kids are really enjoying that interactive web-based activity! Our Birchbark House novel is coming to a conclusion, and students took a brief quiz on the story today to demonstrate their understanding of key ideas and characters in the story. Coming up soon will be a fun unit on economics! Watch for more details soon. Have a very happy, enjoyable & refreshing Spring break!

HELP WANTED...

There are a few opportunities to help our classroom. If you are interested in anything, please let me know.

• Cutting laminating: Sets of roots practice/Concentration cards
• Donations of liquid soap for our classroom sink. The kids love fun scents! (And if it encourages them to wash their hands....I'm all for it! : ) We've had vanilla & mint so far.

Testing Treats -- HELP WANTED

Is anyone interested in creating a special "pick-me-up" for the kids during our busy testing days? I am looking for anyone interested in providing the special treat and assembling the surprises. You can add your own special touch with ribbon or bags....or simply tape the card to the treat. : ) I will provide the cards (or you could create your own if you wish). Here are the choices available: (and if you have another FANTASTICAL idea, that would be SUPER!) : ) See below for some examples. We'll TRY to keep it on the down-low!

• Hershey Hugs & Kisses
• Raisins
• Starburst & water bottle
• Lifesavers
• MINT gum

Please let Mrs. Southwick know asap. We test in a couple of weeks already! Whew!
