Emerging #EdTech
2018 Edition
Shared Vision PSC 1.1
As an educational technologist, even I become overwhelmed at the idea of keeping a compulsory list of every tech tool and platform that is awesome. There are so many new and emerging technologies, that our approach towards implementing something new is no longer a 'choose one' model. Rather we are standing in line at the freshest and most frequently updated buffet line of educational technology tools.
Below you will find emerging tools and pedagogies that will hopefully fill your plates. Remember, don't eat more than you can stomach, just 'grab a doggie bag' and take the rest to go for later!
Please comment or hit me up on Twitter to enlighten me to other must have tools or platforms, because I suffer from severe #FOMO.
Be well, and tech on!

Future Ready Schools Planning Dashboard
As a way to develop and lead with strategy, Future Ready Schools offers a wide array of planning and diffusion guides and tools that help scaling innovation or taking a tech tool to scale more manageable and successful.
Funding PSC 1.3
"I don't have the money for that" - Every school, district and educator has said this at some point. BUT, there is so much funding available in the EdTech space. Check out a few below. Also, don't forget that many local districts are using SPLOST funding to secure technology hardware, software, and licences for their learners.

Equipment, Support, Limitations, Cost PSC 3.6
The tools I highlighted above are for the most part device agnostic, and work on multiple platforms. Few require student accounts, and all are FREE (at least to get started). Equipment limitations are minimal, and support is found QUICKLY when simply Tweeting the tool of your choice. I find that limitations are easily dealt with when we think about uncommon solutions, but if we treat all emerging tech as fail-safe, and business as usual, then aren't we simply negating the idea of 'EMERGENT'?
Some of the tools mentioned above offer district support (enterprise) solutions, while others offer a help desk of their own, or simply a FAQ bot. If we are in the business of encouraging our learners to seek and find solutions, then we should be responsible for enduring the same.

Maker Education
It’s no secret that the #MakerMovement has taken U.S. K-12 by storm. I think that more than any other ‘trend’ in my 12 years in education, embracing what it is to be a #Maker has had the most profound impact on culture, but not just for students…for TEACHERS!

4) Podcasts and PLNs
So, I realize that Podcasts aren’t new…but they are experiencing a renaissance of sorts right now. Maybe they were just ahead of their time. There are many ways to leverage a podcast, and some great tools out there to help.
Professional Development. Personalized.
Wouldn’t it be great if you could skip that PLC meeting (which oddly was never professional, centered on learning, or at all a community) and instead listen to a great podcast while grading, or on your commute. Suggest a few of these personal faves to your team and see if you can’t own some of your own learning! #ReclaimingMyTime
Below are 3 worthy-of-your-time podcasts to try out.

REFLECTION
By selecting and evaluating emerging technology, I am able to best prepare and develop 'use cases' for the educators and leaders I support. Any time I can do the footwork for them so that they can get right to the business of implementation is a win for me.
