STAR Testing this week April 17th & 18th for Kindergarten - Second Grade

Hello Chaffee families,

STAR testing continues this Tuesday, April 17th with STAR Reading and STAR Math on April 18th for students in grades Kindergarten - 2nd. It is extremely important for your child to be on time and present for their testing days. Grade level times will vary throughout the day. To check specific times if needed, please contact your child's teacher or the front office. Please keep check-outs and absences to a minimum and encourage your child to do their best on the test.

Third - Fifth Grades did an excellent job testing last week! Our attendance was great!

Scantron testing for Grades 3-5 will begin the week of April 23rd. Fifth grade will take 3 tests, Science on Monday, April 23rd, Reading on Tuesday, April 24th, and Math on Wednesday, April 25th. Third and Fourth grade will take Reading and Math on the same days as fifth grade.

We know our students and teachers have worked hard this year to learn and grow. We expect great results.

Thank you,

Ms. Spivey

NEWS FROM OUR CHAFFEE PTA

Greetings Chaffee Parents,

On behalf of the Chaffee PTA Nominating Committee, I would like to announce three PTA leadership positions that need to be filled for the upcoming 2018-2019 academic year: 1) President; 2) 1st Vice President Legislative; and 3) 2nd Vice President Membership. Serving one of these positions is a great opportunity to be active in our school as well as other PTAs across our city. Below are brief descriptions of each position.

1. President: Preside at all meetings of Roger B. Chaffee PTA/PTSA; coordinate the work of the officers and committees of this local PTA in order that the purposes may be promoted.

2. 1st Vice President: Assist the president; attend monthly board of education meetings and report to executive committee.

3. 2nd Vice President: Assist the president; promote membership of the PTA and collect dues; send appropriate dues to Alabama and National PTAs

We hope you will consider one of these positions. You may contact the nomination committee at chaffeepta.nomination.cmte@gmail.com to receive a nomination form. Forms should be turned in by Friday, March 23rd. Please don’t hesitate to contact us if you have any questions.

Sincerely,

Lisa Brizendine, Chair

Chaffee PTA Nomination Committee

AR Reading Goals = Mystery Trip at the end of the year

This year's trip is going to be AMAZING!!!!

Please encourage your child to read at home. Students in grades 2-5 must reach all 4 nine week goals in order to attend the Mystery Trip at the end of the year. If your child did not make their first AR goal, they can still participate in the next AR Celebration that we will have at the end of every quarter (nine weeks). Please encourage your child to read, read, read!!! Kindergarten will work on reading 100 sight words and First Grade will set their reading goals during the Wild About Reading program in the spring. We set high expectations because we believe in our students! See the dates above for the Mystery Trips. More information will be coming home in May. We encourage you to chaperone if you would like to have fun with us! Students who earn the trip will attend free of charge with parent permission. Parents will need to pay entry fee only. For 2nd - 5th grade, we plan to leave school at 7:30, so we ask that all students arrive between 7:15 and 7:20am. We hope to return by 2:30, however, if traffic is bad, there is a possibility we may be a little late (I would not think any later than 3:00). I hope you will make arrangements to support us in this effort.
