Comparative Poetry Analysis
Hannah Hour 1
Intro
I don't know about you but I have never wrote about the time of my luminous doom. As written about in "Sleeping in the Forest". The serious tone is similar to the tone in "Prayer to the Pacific. Those poems are both very similar and very different.
Tone and Word Choice
Both of these poems have a calm respectful tone to it. The author of both seems to have a love for nature. For example in lines 13-14 in "Prayer to the Pacific" it says " I return to you turqoise the red coral you sent us, sister spirit of Earth." Also in lines 15-16 of "Sleeping in the forest" it says " I rose and fell, as if in water, grappling with a luminous doom." All in all, both of these poems have a very dramatic tone.
Figurative Language
Both of these poems have a lot of figurative language. In "Prayer to the Pacific" there is personification in lines 31-33 where it says " Wet Earth on my feet, swallowing raindrops clear from China." Also in 'Sleeping in the Forest" in lines 5-7 there is a simile that says "I slept as never before, a stone on the riverbed." As you can see both of these poems are very similar.
Format
Both of these poems are similarly formatted. In "Prayer to the Pacific" outlined, it looks like waves. Randomly, there are spaces between words. This poem creates suspense or drama. In "Sleeping in the Forest" The lines are formatted like a snowman ( not really anything to do with the poem). It is centered and there is a little rhyme in lines 1-3 where it says " I thought the Earth remembered me, she took me back so tenderly." There is no rhyme in "Prayer to the Pacific". For Example in lines 1-3 where it says "I traveled to the ocean distant from my southwest land of sand rock."As you can see, these poems are very similar in format.
Conclusion
All in all, both of these poems are very similar in tone and word choice, figurative language, and format. Mainly all these poems, have a very serious tone that creates suspense. I shared my opinion, what's yours?
