What's Happening?

Hello Families,

First, we would like to thank all of you for being so flexible during this trying time. Rest assured, we will continue to work hard to keep our school safe and try our best to keep our kids in person. We will also try our best to be as transparent as possible with issues as they arise. You have been supportive and understanding during this time, and we appreciate it immensely.

Within that thought, CDC and RIDOH has changed some of their guidelines, and we are waiting from the state for a new "playbook" that K-12 schools are to use to adopt our policies. Once we receive that, we will be reviewing it, and then informing you of any changes to our COVID policies. We know this is complicated and changes often, just like the virus itself. So, thank you for your patience.

Becky

A Letter From Christine Constantineau- Our Social Worker

Dear Parent and/or Guardians;

I would like to introduce myself; my name is Christine Constantineau, and I am the new Social Worker at Hope Academy. This is my 12th year as a school social worker. I am excited to be a part of The Hope Academy community! I wanted to let parents and guardians know some of the ways that I can be helpful to you and your family.

As the school social worker, my role is to assist in facilitating increased communication between home, and school, to counsel kids at school both individually and in groups, and to help parents with strategies that they can use at home with their children. I am also available to provide outside resources for support to children and families (i.e., referrals to things such as therapy and family services, financial assistance programs, and other community resources). In addition to the above services. I will also be in the classrooms 30 minutes a day, once weekly to provide Social Emotional group lessons. As educators we serve students with different motivation for engaging in learning, behaving positively, and performing academically. Social and emotional learning (SEL) provides a foundation for safe and positive learning, and enhances students' ability to succeed in school, careers, and life.

I am open to talking to any parent or guardian who may have questions and/or concerns. My phone number is 533-9185 ext. 185 or email cconstantineau@hopeacademri.org . Please do not hesitate to contact me about anything at all and hopefully I can be assistance to you and your family. I look forward to meeting many of you and getting to know The Hope Academy community!

Sincerely,

Christine Constantineau, LCSW

School Social Worker

Basketball Games and Livestreaming

Congratulations to both the Boys' and Girls' Basketball teams, who both won yesterday's games!! They played well, and we are proud of them!!

Livestreaming did not happen yesterday because we have not received permission on our media release form from all parents on the basketball team. We need everyone's permission in order to livestream our games. If your child plays basketball, and you have NOT filled in our form yet, you can do so here: Media Release Form or you can sign the form that was sent home with the basketball players last night. Once we receive that form back from EVERYONE on the team, we can start livestreaming our games.

WIDA Testing and IReady Testing About to Begin

Next week we are going to begin our WIDA (World-Class Instructional Design and Assessment) ACCESS tests for all of our students who are classified as an MLL student. They take the test in 4 different language domains: Reading, Writing, Listening and Speaking. We begin on January 10th and we will finish by February 18th.

IReady testing will begin once again for the Winter Benchmark. We start with English Language Arts and then we will finish with Math. These tests give us a good idea on whether our students are making progress in these areas, and will tell us what standards our students need more help on instructionally. Please encourage your child to do their very best on these tests, as they help us understand what your child needs to make academic progress.

Prepare Your Kids for Outdoor Recess

Please make sure your child is ready and prepared to go outside for outdoor recess. We still go outside on cold days. We only stay in if the temperature is below 20 degrees or if the feel like temperature is below 20 degrees. Please be sure to send your child in with a warm coat, hat and gloves!!!
