Principal News
Hello TRIS Families,
As we wrapped up October with our Halloween parties, we also ended our month long focus on Bullying Prevention. Although the month is over, we will continue our commitment to making TRIS a place where all are welcome and everyone matters. Please help us in our efforts by communicating with us promptly when you have concerns so that we can address situations, learn, regroup and move forward. Sometimes it is hard to remember that our students are 8, 9 and 10 year olds that will make mistakes. They are still learning how to be kind, with us and from us.
Coats, Coats, Coats: Please make sure that your child is dressing for the cooler weather and that your child knows your expectations. We do our best to make sure that all students are wearing their coats outside to recess but sometimes we miss folks. If the temperature is at a reasonable level, we do let students take off their coats if they get hot while playing. Thank you for having a conversation with your child.
H.E.R.O.E.S.: Each month we will have H.E.R.O.E.S. Groups. The letters stand for Helping Everyone Respect Others Every Day at School. Every student is placed with a staff member in a group of about 13 students from all of the grade levels at TRIS. The group meets for 30 minutes once a month to get to know each other better through games and activities. The purpose being to build community across our school by developing relationships between staff and students that may not normally be together. We had our first H.E.R.O.E.S. group on Friday. Each group came up with a name and created a banner. Check in with your child to find out the name of their group.
Mix It Up at Lunch Day: We had a very successful day on Tuesday, Oct. 21st. About twenty-five middle schoolers joined us at each lunch period to help facilitate conversations at the tables. Students sat at the table that corresponded to the character trait listed on the stick that they were given right before lunch. We used positive character traits like kind, caring, persistent, etc. Each table had a list of conversation starters that the middle schoolers used to get the students talking to each other. Here is an example of a question, “If you could have any super power, what would it be?” As students went out for recess, they were allowed to choose some stickers. I’m not sure who enjoyed the stickers more, the TRIS students or the middle schoolers. I heard a lot of positive comments from the middle schoolers and from TRIS students about the day.
Family Conferences: Thank you so much for collaborating with us to ensure that all of our students have a successful year. Research shows that when families are involved at school, the performance of all of the children at school, not just their own, tends to improve. The more comprehensive and well planned the partnership between school and home, the higher the student achievement. We appreciate your support!
Do you ever wonder what staff are doing when there is a professional learning day and we ask you to keep your kids at home? Well, it allows us to focus on improving our instructional practices so that we can continue to support, challenge and engage all of the learners at TRIS. Staff spent the morning on Oct. 14th participating in professional learning to strengthen our collaborative strategies to best meet the needs of all students in the classroom. The afternoon was spent setting goals and creating plans for the year in regards to professional practice and student achievement as well as focusing on our new math curriculum, Bridges. We are seeing great benefits from the new curriculum already. Thank you for supporting us as we take on this new curriculum.
Is it okay to pick up/drop off in the back by the Kids Korner Entrance? We ask that you do not do this. The parking area back there is very small and it is dangerous for our students to be running through the parking lot. High School students that attend class at TRIS use that space to park and they are not always watching for kids. Lastly, Kids Korner parents use that parking lot for drop off/pick up and need to have access to parking spots. Thank you for helping us with this. We want your child to be safe!
Please call, stop in or email me with ideas, questions or concerns at 882-3842 or DornB@evansville.k12.wi.us. We are always here to problem solve with you.

Music Notes
On Thursday, November 14th the fourth grade will be performing Letters From Camp in the Performing Arts Center, located at the High School. This program will last approximately 50 minutes. Each class will be featured as they share music about having fun in the summer at camp.
This is a special event that all children are expected to attend. We are asking the students to wear nice performance dress clothes and comfortable shoes. Please call if you have any questions.
The concert starts at 6:30PM. Feel free to find a seat early, however we ask that you keep your child with you until 6:25PM. At this time each class will be announced separately to walk onto the stage. Children must stay seated with their families until they are called on-stage.
There will also be a performance during the daytime which will be held at 9:30 AM for the rest of the Intermediate school as well as any family members that can’t attend the evening performance.
We will need help moving instruments to the high school on Monday, November 11th after school. Please let Mrs. Zblewski know if you would be able to help transport instruments. If you have any questions, please call Mrs. Zblewski at 882-3854 or email.
Thank you for your support of your child’s music education!

Counselors Corner
October is coming to an end which means our focus on Bullying Prevention in guidance lessons will be coming to an end as well. We will continue to remind students to refuse bullying and to report it when they see or hear it, however our guidance lessons will shift the focus back towards growth mindset including an escape room activity focused on growth mindset.
Students started out the month by learning how to RECOGNIZE bullying when it is happening to them, others and/or when they themselves are displaying bully-like behaviors. Students then learned the importance of REPORTING bullying and identified people at school and home that they could report to. The third week students learned to REFUSE bullying. Students learned how to be assertive when telling someone to stop bullying them or others. The final week of our Bullying Prevention unit is focusing on the impact bystanders have on a bullying situation, both negative and positive. Our 4th and 5th graders also spent the final week discussing cyber bullying and what they can do to help stop it! We also discussed internet safety and making safe choices online, please check out the school social media page on Facebook for more ideas on how to keep your student safe online!
This month was filled with lots of fun activities such as; Blue Shirt Day, bullying prevention bracelets, Mix It Up Lunch, and TRIS’s Pledge Against Bullying! Please continue to discuss bullying with your student(s) and ask them questions about what they have learned, they now have a lot of knowledge on this topic!
Please do not hesitate to reach out to me if you have any questions, comments or concerns. I can be reached by phone at 882-3847 or by email at mcnamaras@evansville.k12.wi.us.
Thank you for supporting your child in learning the skills that lead to success in school and life!
Thank you,

Celebrations
Each month the entire school gets together in the gym for a school-wide celebration. It is a time for us to have fun together as an entire school. We talk about the things we have been working on as a school like “Cooperation” and then students and teachers participate in some fun challenge. It is a time for us to laugh together and support each other. We end with a line up routine that gets the students lined up quickly and ready to head back to class. This whole process only takes about twenty minutes.
Winter Wear Guidelines
Families, please be aware of the following winter guidelines for recess!
1. Students are required to wear boots and snow pants in the snow.
2. No boots and snow pants will mean blacktop only. Please let us know if your child needs boots or snow pants.
3. Snow pants and boots will allow students to go anywhere on the playground; no snow pants will mean that students must play on the blacktop only.
4. To avoid injury, students are expected to stay off the icy areas.
