Constitution Stays Pefect in the Florida
The lightly raced CONSTITUTION stayed undefeated winning his third straight race with a beautiful trip from Jose Castellano. Constitution finished his ground saving trip finally catching and putting a neck ahead of WILDCAT RED who led the field eight from the very start. WildCat pressed a fairly mundane pace 0:24/0:48/1:12 but couldn’t hold off a late charging Constitution. WildCat Red looked to handle the distance fairly well but didn’t have enough during the final steps of the race. The third place finisher GENERAL A ROD had no excuse and finished over a length behind the leaders. General A Rod sat just off the WildCat Red throughout the race, and looked to start his move as they entered the stretch, but had nothing compared to the leaders. Even money post time favorite CAIRO PRINCE had nothing to add as he sat just off the leaders around the track and was set up exactly where most expected him to be, but had nothing down the stretch. The long layoff could be to blame for this poor showing.
Vicar's In Trouble takes Louisiana Derby
The hometown favorite VICAR’S IN TROUBLE led the entire distance of the Louisiana Derby and finished his trip pulling away from the rest of the field eventually winning by more than three lengths. Rosie Napravnik timed it beautifully after a pressing a nice pace 0:232/0:474/1:12 but had plenty left coming down the stretch. Post time favorite INTENSE HOLIDAY finished second after rating just off the pace, but couldn’t catch the winner when it counted. Longshot COMMANDING CURVE finished out the trifecta passing a few horses down the stretch, but a distant third finished more than 6 lengths off the winner. IN TROUBLE finished fourth, but was disqualified and placed out of the Derby points for an altercation with eventual fifth place finisher ALBANO who was moved up into fourth after the steward’s inquiry
