2nd Grade ACAP Testing starts at the end of this month! March 29th, 30th is Reading and April 12th, 13th is Math. Testing begins each day at 8:00 am.
Family lunches may now resume. If you decide to join your child for lunch, please remember these important steps:
- Identify the exact time through the classroom teacher. Please arrive and depart during that time slot as not to interrupt instructional time.
- Remember your ID and check in at front office to get your visitor sticker.
- We have tables set up in each pod to eat with your child. Other friends will not be able to join at this time.
- Check with your child’s teacher first, but weather permitting, you may also be able to eat at tables in courtyard spaces adjacent to some classrooms.
Thank you for your continued support as we wrap up the 3rd quarter and enter the final 9 weeks of the year on March 21st!
Curriculum News
Happy March! March is always a beautiful month when spring starts to shine brightly and the days become warmer. Teachers and students are in full swing getting ready to enjoy Read Across America, Spring Break, and finally to begin the fourth nine weeks on March 21st. I always feel that these last three months fly by with so much happening in our schools.
For this month, I would like to share with you a link about the importance of understanding working memory and why it is important. When you have time, please click this link:
The link will take you to a highly respected site to share with you information on working memory and its impact on reading. The link will take you to a short read and a video.

Nurse News
March is brain injury awareness month. Here at AEEC we follow concussion protocols and screen students. We wanted to want to share this information on concussions as the weather warms up and outside play time increases.
A concussion is a type of brain injury that changes the way the brain normally works. A concussion is caused by a bump, blow, or jolt to the head. Concussions can also occur from a blow to the body that causes the head and brain to move rapidly back and forth. Even what seems to be a mild bump to the head can be serious. Concussions can have a more serious effect on a young, developing brain and need to be addressed correctly.
You can’t see a concussion. Signs and symptoms of a concussion can show up right after an injury or may not appear or be noticed until hours or days after the injury. Please monitor your child after any head injuries and be in communication with the school nurse if you have any questions or concerns. We truly appreciate your helpfulness in keeping our students safe!

Music and Art News
It is such a joy to make music with AEEC’s talented students every day. Each grade level has begun to practice the music programs for our grade level Showcase Nights and we are getting excited to show you what we have learned! 1st Grade will present their show “Jungle Jammin’” on March 31. Kindergarten will follow with their show “School is Cool!” on April 7, and 2nd Grade will take you “Under the Sea” on May 10. We can’t wait for you to be a part of it!
The art room has been bursting with color this month! Kindergarteners have learned all about the rainbow order and have created two different rainbow themed artworks-perhaps your child has come home singing all about our new friend Roy G. Biv? First graders have been working hard on a multi-part tiger artwork in preparation for their upcoming jungle-themed Showcase night. They’ve painted paper, drawn tigers, and are currently collaging their finished pieces together. Second graders circled back to finish some paper plate weavings we started back in the Fall. They also learned all about scientist Wilson Bentley and created snowflake drawings inspired by his research!
