Ionic & Covalent Bonds

Ionic Bond

Ionic Bonding is a chemical bond with a metal and nonmetal ion that happens through electrostatic attraction. So basically its a bond that is formed by the attraction of two opposite charged ions

Covalent Bond

Covalent Bonds involve the sharing of pairs of electrons. They share electrons so they can have a full shell and gain more stability.

Relation between valence electrons and ionic bonds and covalent bonds

Ionic Bond: They relate because it depends on the valence electrons if they lose or gain electrons, and that causes them to become positive or negative, and that attracts the opposite ion.

Covalent Bond: Covalent bonds involve the sharing of a pair of valence electrons by two atoms.

How periodic trends affect bonding

Period trends affect bonding because of the way the elements are arranged. They can be arranged by atomic radius, ionization energy, and electronegativity.
