Week 5 ROAR!
Please look over the newsletter this week with important information updates. Many of these updates were also shared by Dr. Omar Castillo via email.
Remember to have the camera remain focused on the child and that you, as a parent/guardian are off screen. We also ask that you do not attempt to speak to the teacher during live teaching. The more we try to replicate in person school, the better the experience for all. If you have a technology issue, please call the school or email technology@esd20.org. If you need a conference with the teacher, please email the teacher or call them when live instruction is not occurring. We greatly appreciate the technical support you are providing your child. We ask that children begin to develop some technological independence, as appropriate.
There will be no supply pick up next week, but the next supply pick up will be on 9.28. Please let your child’s teacher(s) know if you need schedule accommodations. If you receive communication from your child's teacher that they will not be providing materials on this day, then please do not feel the need to come on this day. We would hate for you to make a trip to school, if it is not necessary.
Thank you for allowing me into your child's virtual classroom to introduce myself, and to read aloud to them. Over the next few weeks, I’ll be continuing to conduct these read alouds in each child’s classroom. In a normal year, I could introduce myself to families and students in a variety of ways (from arrival/dismissal to lunch/recess to walking through the hallways).
Big thanks to all the parents and guardians who have assisted their child with remote MAP testing! We really appreciate all your effort and assistance.
Special Board Meeting
Curriculum Night via Zoom
In light of the Phase 2 Plan, we have made the decision to delay all Curriculum Night events until a later date. More information to come.
MAP Testing Continues
Teachers have started to administer MAP assessments for students to measure growth and support student learning. For more information about MAP, click here. Your school will provide additional information and scheduling for your child’s classroom. but here are some tips to help your students test successfully remotely from home:
- Ensure student(s) are prepared for school activities each day by getting plenty of rest and eating nutritious meals.
- Help your student(s) locate their Keeneyville D20 device(s) and charger(s) well before their test is scheduled to begin.
- Remind your student(s) to set up their Keeneyville D20 device on a table or a desk near an electrical outlet and to plug in the device.
- To help your student(s) focus, work with other family members to limit distractions such as music and/or other screens while your student(s) take tests and complete school activities/assignments.
- Follow your teacher's instructions on your internet-connected device so you can help your student(s) follow the directions to access tests remotely.
- Most test results are used to guide student learning, so please resist the urge to give your student clues or the right answers.
- Remind your student(s) to take their time and encourage them to give their very best effort!

A Reminder From our Nurse's DEN
Please ensure your Wildcat is compliant with grade-level requirements.
Grade K and transfer students who have not yet complied with the State of Illinois health mandates are required to submit proof of a physical exam and immunization records as soon as possible. Paperwork can be dropped off, faxed to (630) 539-2316, or scanned and emailed to the Waterbury nurse's office, lmontiel@esd20.org.
State of Illinois regulations require students to be in compliance or excluded from remote or in-person school beginning Thursday, October 15. Non-compliant students will have their access to remote learning blocked until these requirements have been met. Absences due to immunization and/or non-compliance are not excused.
