BG Happenings
October 2023
Kindergarten
1st Grade
First graders have been working hard on addition and subtraction of numbers to 10! They've been taught ways to help them count more efficiently. They will continue to decompose and compose numbers in various math stories. Here you see students from Mrs. Hadzima's class working with a partner on the strategy of adding on. 2nd Grade
2nd Graders have been working on Place Value, Counting, and Comparison of Numbers to 1,000. Our students will expand their skills with an understanding of units by bundling ones, tens, and hundreds. Here is Mrs. Davison’s class in action collaborating to efficiently solve word problems. This lays the foundation for future work in second grade and beyond. Students are working through the Read Draw Write process (RDW) collaboratively.
3rd Grade
Third grade has been busy this month! We are so grateful for all the families that participated in Fall conferences. Additionally, we are so proud of our students for facilitating their own conferences. Students did a phenomenal job self-reflecting on their learning goals as well as their learning characteristics. We're looking forward to our Fall parties next week. Thank you so much to the room parents and volunteers for putting it together.
4th Grade
The fourth grade team is working hard to identify central idea and relevant details. We read a variety of expository texts that have given students the opportunity to practice this skill. Identifying the central or main idea is a priority standard that we will focus on throughout the entire year. As your child independently reads at home, you could ask them to identify the central idea.
5th Grade
Students were introduced and enjoyed the launch of our partnership with the Campton Hills Police Department for our Too Good for Drugs program. Officer Hatt and Sergeant/Chief Levand set the tone for the weeks to come, with the purpose of establishing respect and rapport. Please ask your student about the engaging first activity that was completed as well as how well they “followed directions.”
