PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE

Kia ora i te whānau

What an awesome week it's been!

Subject teaching started on Monday and it’s been an absolute joy to walk around the school and see students engaged in their learning in the different learning areas at our school.

We know the thought of going to different teachers for different subjects was a bit scary for our new students, but we also know the whānau class structure works. The tuakana-teina composite class system ensures that our Year 7s have good role models, who know how everything works and how to care for the new students in their class. It’s also a great opportunity for our students to establish learning relationships with a range of different teachers across the school. The teachers were really excited to get into the subject model, and I hope your children have come home and shared all the new learning they have experienced. I also hope we haven't worn them out in their week of subjects!

The Whānau Hui last Thursday evening was a big success. It was great to meet our new families, as well as reconnect with those families who have had children coming to us for a number of years. It’s always great to see you! Thanks also to our Board, for supplying the Hot Dogs and supporting our BIS community. I hope you said hello and signed up to help them in their fundraising efforts.

Whole School Assembly - These will be held in our hall every Monday at 8:40am. All are welcome.

Assemblies are one opportunity we have to share the success of our students and we welcome all whānau, especially if your child is to receive an award. Sleeve badges, student of the week, Principals awards, achievers badges, sports, culture and arts achievements, are amongst the many ways we celebrate success at BIS.

As you may be aware, our Board is responsible for the regular review of School Policies. Their first focus is the Concerns and Complaints policy. I have attached the link to our School Policies here. Please take a look and if you have any feedback on the Concerns and Complaints policy please send it through to principal@bis.school.nz

Have a great week!

BUAFC Football Opportunity

BUAFC would like to offer all girls interested in playing football in 2023 the opportunity to take part in the club Open Training for Year 7 and Year 8 on Friday evenings from Friday 3rd of March to Friday 24th of March at Shepherds Park 4pm – 5.15pm.

Children will be guided and supervised by BUAFC coaching staff , and a member of the BUAFC admin team will record attendance and take details for further communication. Teams will be selected for the winter league throughout the training period, and teams will be based on friends and relevant skills.

On top of that we are keen to promote girls football this year because the 2nd largest sporting event in the world is coming to NZ in July 2023. Birkenhead United will be the official training venue for the ITALIAN NATIONAL TEAM in their FIFA WOMEN’S WORLD CUP campaign 2023.

This is a great opportunity for children to see professional female athletes up close and forge memories that will stay with them for the rest of their lives.

To register your interest in attending please email fdm@buafc.org.nz
