NEW! Message from the Principal
It's been another great week at Mesa Verde! This week our students were busy working on research papers; finding evidence and providing commentary to support claims; learning about excel spreadsheets and the use of formulas to help make data collection fast and easy; learning about variables that affect speed through hands-on experiments; developing hypotheses in science and social studies; and practicing Cornell notes! And that's just a taste of what our students experienced in their classes this week.
ASB was caught handing out custom coffee cups to our bus drivers this morning to thank them for all they do, and ASB also demonstrated flexibility and quick thinking when the rain called for adjusting their Fun Friday plans. Students showed their school spirit today in MV colors and demonstrated their support for Breast Cancer Awareness by wearing pink on Wednesday, and counselors were in classrooms this week presenting social-emotional learning lessons.
Next week is our first Principal's Advisory Council and our first Principal's chat will be on 10/20. More information will come out next week regarding the location for our in-person morning Principal's chat and evening Zoom meeting.
Have a great weekend!
Your Proud Principal,
Kellie
NEW! Meet Our Staff
Tessa Mahlow - Art/Exploratory, 5th year in this position (previously Critical Skills & ASES)
I am a four time MVMS Eagle (once as a student, once as an ASES aide, and two different times as a teacher), so clearly I am meant to be at Mesa Verde! After growing up in San Diego, I went to UC Santa Barbara for my Bachelors, credential and Masters. I've taught in Orange County and the Bay Area but eventually missed my nephew too much and headed back to SD. I live with my husband in a tiny old home that is always decorated for the current holiday. I love sewing my own clothes, photography, tent camping, traveling (next on my list- New Mexico, Ecuador, Peru, India), reading, and learning new things (currently- knitting, rock climbing and skating). Fun fact- I have amazing luck when it comes to winning contests- I'm at over 20!
Heather Ryan - Library Media Tech, 7 years at MVMS
I am a San Diego native that attended La Jolla High and UCSD. After college I worked for a commercial real estate information company researching sales of various commercial properties (industrial parks, office buildings, shopping centers, apartment buildings). I have 3 children - my oldest, Garrett, works for TuSimple in San Diego; my middle child, Brenner, lives in Seattle and works as a computer engineer for OKTA; my youngest, Kendall, is in her senior year at San Diego State. After Kendall was born, I became a full-time volunteer at PUSD helping out on Foundation and PTSA boards and in the classrooms and libraries. This led to me eventually working as the LMT at Deer Canyon for a few years and then moving over to Mesa Verde where I have been for the last 7+ years. I love books (obviously!) and working on our vibrant campus with so many wonderful staff and students. In my spare time I enjoy running, biking, working out at the gym and spending time with friends and family.

NEW! Eagle Shout Outs
Congratulations to our MV Eagles who helped us Rise Together last week.
Did You Know…
Thank you to everyone who has donated to this year's Pledge Drive. Did you know your generous donation to the Foundation may easily be DOUBLED?! Many companies in our community have programs that match employee donations to qualified charitable organizations, such as the Mesa Verde Foundation. Please check with your HR department, or use this link to see if your company offers matching. Doubling your gift can be as easy as making a phone call or sending an email to your company! If you have any questions or need assistance regarding corporate matching, please contact our treasurer, Carolyn Russell at mvmsfoundationtreasurer@gmail.com.
We rely on our parent community to make this school everything it can be for our students, and we truly appreciate your support. Donations can be made online at https://mvmsfoundation.org/pledgedrive.html.
Thank you for all you do for our Eagles!
