Week 10 Edition of the Mayfield Messenger
Message from Dr. Frischkorn
Good Evening Mayfield Intermediate School students and families!
Today marks the completion of the first quarter of the school year. We are proud of our student's accomplishments during the first ten weeks of the school year. Teachers and students have been working hard, setting up routines, focusing on building foundational skills in reading and math, and showing great character. We love the school that everyone has worked towards putting together.
We look forward to the next quarter of the school year and seeing all the incredible growth that awaits.
Please log in to your Parent Portal Account to check your child's grades. We have over 95% of our parents with Parent Portal Accounts. The next important step is to ensure that we are updating and monitoring our student's grades throughout the quarter.
Always Learning,
Dr. Donald Frischkorn

Thank You to the Manassas Ballet and the Hylton Performing Arts Center
Our 6th-grade students were special guests of the Manassas Ballet Theatre and the Hylton Performing Arts Center Wednesday morning. The students were able to watch the Legend of Sleepy Hollow. The Manassas Ballet Theatre allowed our students to ask questions after the show. The field trip was an excellent experience for our students to see an incredible performance inside a venue as lovely as the Hylton Performing Arts Center.
Thank you to Sarah Weaver, Coordinator of Elective Instruction for Manassas City, Mrs. Brooks, MCPS School Board Member and part of the Manassas Ballet Theatre, and Mr. Wolfe, Manassas City Council Member and Artistic Director and CEO Manassas Ballet Theatre, for supporting our Mayfield Bobcats and helping us be part of this event.
Additionally, the Manassas Ballet Theatre and the Hylton Performing Arts Center are providing our students with a voucher for 1 free ticket to the performance The Legend of Sleepy Hollow

Student Attendance Matters!
Student attendance is one of the essential factors in determining student success. At Mayfield Intermediate School, we want to support our students and family with how vital daily attendance is for our students. Missing 1 to 2 days of school per month will lead to a child being considered chronically absent. Chronically absent students tend to struggle academically, socially, and emotionally.
Attendance Works, a non-profit organization that supports building attendance awareness in communities, states, "Every day a student is absent is a lost opportunity for learning. Too many absences can affect achievement for the absent student and disrupt learning for the entire class. While teachers play a key role, everyone in the school building— from the principal to the front office to the cafeteria— can teach attendance!"
