School seems to pass more quickly every year! Hard to believe that we are already at the midway point of our first quarter!! A large part of what we do early in the school year is to lay the foundation for our expectations and assess our students to get an accurate picture of where they are academically. The second half of quarter one will pick up with assignments and daily work, so please continue to encourage your child to do his/her best and to ensure that your child is here each day on time!

As we head into a three-day Holiday weekend, please see some notes below for your

  • If your child was at Highland Middle School last year, he or she took part in ILEARN, the state of Indiana’s end of year assessment. Today in our Homerooms, students were given copies of their individual reports.
  • Current 7th grade students received three reports, one each for Math, English-Language Arts, and Science.
  • Current 8th grade students received two reports, one each for Math and English-Language Arts.
  • All students were rated either Above Proficiency, Proficient, Approaching Proficiency, or Below Proficiency in each assessment taken.
  • Students are able to see how they stacked up against other students in Highland and in the state of Indiana.
  • All students also received a letter explaining the score reports.
  • All students should bring home their reports today, so please be on the lookout for those!

Have a great weekend!
