Pastry chef's are people who have a desire to bake, who are creative to make new pastries and are hard workers. They have to pay close attention to details and they have to have a culinary experience. They need to be able to interact with different people and have great communication skills.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Manages junior kitchen staff
  • Keeps kitchen clean and organized
  • Preparing budgets and ordering supplies
  • Supervise apprentices and teach their work
  • Maintaining inventory
  • Preparing menu's and budgets
  • Developing and testing new pastries
  • Matching desserts to complement menu courses
  • Decorating and plating
  • Producing baked goods


$17,000, when out of culinary school

$30,000- $50,000, when working as a pastry chef for years

Work Locations

Cafes, Restaurants, Bakeries, Hotels, Bistros, some casinos
