Weekly Community Updates - March 24, 2023
Dear Students and Families,
Today was absolutely amazing! I loved seeing our seniors excited (maybe a little nervous!) to present on the topic they became experts on over the course of the school year. If you don't have a senior, I would encourage you to ask your student what they heard about and what they learned. If you do have a senior, please celebrate their work! We are so proud of all of them.
Next week is another thing to look forward to: interim! We have a completely different schedule. Students will be in one elective course for the entire week. If your student is on campus, class starts at 8:30 am and ends at 3:00 pm everyday. This includes Wednesday. For interims off campus, please get directions directly from your interim teacher. I hope students have a great time next week. I can't wait to hear about their experiences after Spring Break.
Take care,
Maritza Torres
Senior Exhibition!
We are so proud of our seniors who presented their senior exhibition project that they have been thoughtfully developing and researching all year long! Our 9th, 10th, and 11th graders were wonderful listeners who asked great questions, and got a taste of what's to come for them. A big thank you to OSPTO, staff, and community evaluators for all the support for our 12th graders on this important day.
Interim Week: March 27 - March 31
Interim week begins on Monday, March 27th! We can't wait for students and staff to dive into interest areas and a week of innovative learning.
Reminder: School is in session from 8:30am - 3:00pm all of interim week, including our Wednesdays that usually have 1:15pm dismissal time.
Spring Break: April 3 - April 7
Students have Spring Break from April 3 - April 7. We return to school on Monday April 10.
Returning Student Reminder
Parents: please be sure to register for the upcoming 23-24 school year. Access through your Parentvue account. If you have any questions, please contact Ms. Galea, OHS Registrar. cgalea@jeffersonunion.net
Ramadan
As some students will observe Ramadan, March 23-April 21, it’s important for us, as a school, to be mindful of religious practices that may take place during this time, including fasting and designated times of prayer. If your student needs additional support during this time, please contact the office, as the staff is here to help.
The JUHSD Food Services Department, upon request, will provide take-home lunches for students needing to eat at a later time in the day, along with signage messaging this, at each of the cafeteria registers.
As always, please reach out to OHS Principal Martiza Torres, (650) 550-7301 with any questions or concerns you may have.
Trades Evening - April 27th

"The more clearly we can focus our attention on the wonders and realities of the universe about us, the less taste we shall have for destruction."

Rachel Carson (1907-1964) was a biologist, ecologist and writer; she was an advocate for the environment and is often credited with helping to found the modern environmentalist movement. She wrote the Silent Spring (1962) in which she documented the harm synthetic pesticides do to the environment.
