Important Information for You!
The Next Four Weeks...
Welcome back! I hope everyone had an enjoyable Thanksgiving break with family and friends. There are a lot of things taking place in our lives, community, and world as a whole but we can be thankful that we belong to a profession which allows us to touch and influence the future. That's pretty special!
Returning from the Thanksgiving holiday, let's keep focused. This marking period goes by quickly. We have four solid weeks until the Christmas/Winter break. After winter break we come back for just two and a half weeks until the end of the second marking period /first semester. It is crucial that we plan and structure our instructional time with kids. Did you know that the mid-point of this marking period is December 6? If you have a student who is not making the progress you'd expect or there have been significant changes since parent-teacher conferences (positive or negative), now is the time to contact the parents.
Additionally and as we have discussed before, this time of year can be exciting, challenging, busy, a source of anxiety for our students, etc...we need to be mindful that our students may be experiencing lots of different emotions during this time of year and we need to be patient and look to understand. Please take time to review Cardinal Code, keep expectations for teaching and learning high, have those community circles, and enjoy the kids. Thanks for your continued efforts. You make a difference in the lives of children!
Early Release Day
Please don't forget that Wednesday, November 30th is an Early Release Day for students and all certified staff, parapros, and the Challenge Coordinator will participate in building level PD. Our topic will be shared reading and Melissa Wing will be joining us and we gain a deeper understanding of this critical piece of Balanced Literacy. While I know that this topic may not directly apply to everyone, it is important that we all have a shared understanding and that non-classroom/non-load bearing staff members are able to support the reading work being done in the classroom. You should have all received the agenda last Wednesday along with the 3-2-1 sheet. Please be sure to fill it out prior to the PD. The Hill staff will be joining us for this PD and although their staff will be traveling to Thomson, our goal is to begin promptly at 1:45 p.m., please be in the gym ready to go. Likewise, we will end promptly at 4:45 p.m.
Cool to Care
With just over a week to go, our Thomson Family has brought in approximately 1,923 items for Cool to Care. While this is an amazing number of items, our building goal is 3,500. On Monday, the office will prepare a 'check point' flyer to go home with the kids. At our PTO meeting last Monday, the parents shared that it would be great for teachers to send home class updates via newsletters or remind to let them know how their child's class was doing in terms of the Thomson Cool to Care Challenge. Please consider doing so.
PTO Classroom Supply Accounts
At last week's PTO meeting, they voted to make a donation to your classroom supply accounts. I will be putting A-74 account updates in your mailboxes early this week based on the balances as of last Wednesday. As always, I will be following the formula for the deposits. If you have any questions please see Anna or me.
Quotes Worth Reading
Even if you go for it and it doesn't work out, you still win. You still had the guts enough to head straight into something that frightened you. That type of bravery will take you places.
