Canby High School Family Newsletter
For the Week of October 7th to October 13th, 2021
Principal's Message
Good afternoon Canby High School Students and Families!
We’re in the midst of Homecoming Week, and the spirit is high at CHS! On Monday, we welcomed our court with a virtual assembly. Students have been dressing up in themes throughout the week Tomorrow we have the highlight of the week with our student car parade downtown (starting at 4pm,) and our football game against Hillsboro HS at 7pm. The week’s festivities conclude with our outdoor Homecoming Dance on our stadium field from 8-10:30pm. The weather should be good, and we are looking forward to a great dance!
Last night, we held our first Latino Family Advisory meeting, and we appreciate all the families who were able to attend. We plan to host this Spanish language event monthly to gain input from our community and answer any questions. Please look forward to our next meeting during the first week of November!
Finally, we’re at the halfway point of the first trimester. Next Wednesday, we host virtual parent teacher conferences. Teachers will email parents instructions on how to sign up for meetings by Monday.
Have a great week and Go Cougars!

Athletics
Winter Sports sign-ups are now open. Please visit www.registermyathlete.com to make sure you are fully registered prior to participating in practices or games. Please contact chs-athletics@canby.k12.or.us for more information.
A reminder that masks are required indoors for everyone who is not in active competition or practice. For outdoor athletics, masks are required for everyone who cannot maintain 6ft of social distance. Those who are competing or practicing outdoors may also choose to remove their masks. When we travel to away contests, some schools may adopt more restrictive guidelines. Please stay flexible throughout the season and follow the applicable guidelines.
This year, we have again purchased a license to broadcast all our home games on the NFHS Network for free! Away games may still require a subscription to the NFHS Network. Please go to NFHSNetwork.com and create a free account to watch all our games in the stadium and main gym.
Other Information
Picture retakes are October 25th in the Library during school hours.
CHS Video Broadcast Recruitment
Parents and students, do you have an interest in live streaming and announcing events? Would you like to help CHS and the community? Do you want to be a part of our Cougar team?
We are hoping to create a live stream broadcast network of volunteers to cover CHS sports and activities in a professional manner in keeping with the hard work that our students and athletes put in. Our vision is to develop a dynamic partnership with CTV-5 to support these broadcasts with interested students and adults providing the camera work, production, and commentary. If you have an interest in participating with this after school club, please contact Tyler Francke with The Canby Current and Now Hear This Studios at francke@canbyfirst.com. Please include your contact information and any prior media experience.
Attendance and Sick Students
There are processes in place to help us track students in the event of illness or an early departure from school.
If a student is sick during class, they should go to the health room, located next to the counseling office. Our staff will contact the family for pick up.
If a student needs to be excused for an appointment or any other reason, please notify our attendance office at 503.263.7210 as soon as possible. This allows us to notify the teacher and excuse the student in a timely manner.
NEW-Bus Transportation
Did you know that there is a FREE Canby Loop bus? Students can ride the bus to school for FREE. There are many stops, here are a few streets where there are stops: 13th, Territorial, and Township. Please see the attached link for more information and bus stops and times.
If you have any questions or problems with school bus transportation, please email Student Transport of America (STA) at canbyschoolbus@ridesta.com.
