Alopecia Areata is an autoimmune disease resulting in the loss of hair from the scalp and other parts of the body. While alopecia is common, affecting 6.5 million in the US (about 2% of the population), both public awareness and research funding for the disease are low. There is no cure for alopecia, and there are no FDA approved treatments for the disease. Alopecia is highly unpredictable and cyclical. Hair can grow back or fall out at any time, and due to public unfamiliarity with the disease this can have a profound impact on one's life at work or school.
Please join the National Capital Area Alopecia Areata Support Group to raise alopecia awareness and funds for alopecia research and education.
