Open Educational Resources (OER)
Explore, Create, Share
Join us for a day (or more) of learning!
Administrators, Instructional Coaches, and Teachers are invited to come together to learn about using Open Education Resources (OER) as an alternative for or supplement to textbooks. There will be an overview to answer questions like: what is OER, where do we find resources, what about copyright, will this save our district money?
Two additional days (for possible relicensure credit) will be available for coaches and/or teachers who want to collaboratively create lessons/units face to face or virtually. The units will incorporate Iowa Standards, OER resources, Iowa AEA Online Databases, and appropriate websites. At the end of our time, teams will have a curricular lesson/unit that is open and available to all teachers. If you are interested, please complete this form.
Goals for our Time
- Create an environment of shared understanding around the Open Education movement
- Connect with others doing similar work
- Gain Access to the numerous (often free) resources available to educators online
- (Re)Design unit(s) to be shared with all teachers across the state.
Logistics
Participants will then have the opportunity to choose additional days to come together as a collaborative group to write/design their own OER units and lessons.
