Sixth Grade Band Bulletin

March 9, 2015

Dear Parents

There is so much happening with the bands! The students are finishing up their 4th GLE unit this week. We'll immediately start the fifth unit. They will also have the 5-scale quiz next week (once PARCC tests are complete). Students can send me a video in advance.

Recently, Mr. Heath (former band teacher at BHS) to listen to students play for Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp scholarships. I just received the list of all the students who performed. The people at Blue Lake were very generous with Scholarships. You should be receiving the registration packet in the mail soon. In that packet, you will get your scholarship amount. You will still need to register for Blue Lake. The audition for scholarship was not the application process. In the registration though, you will be able deduct the scholarship.

Students wanting to go to band camp but stay in Illinois can apply to the Illinois Summer Youth Music Camp, the Jr. High Band Camp at Western Illinois University, the Jr. High Camp at Illinois State University. Most RMS students attend the ISYM (U of I) camp. Blue Lake is the second most attended camp. Please visit our Band Camp Website to check out the camp websites and get more information. Camps are filling up fast! After March, most camps go to wait lists.

Additional Scholarships Available For Band Camp:

The Batavia Music Buffs provide camp scholarships each year. Students will soon be able to apply online.

The Batavia Women's Club also provides larger scholarships each year. Students received and can still pick up scholarship applications in the big band room. These scholarship forms are due no later than Friday, March 20 by the start of school. I have to write letters of recommendation for each student. Any forms turned in late will not be accepted.

First Hoagie Sale--A Great Success!

Thanks to all the students who participated in the Music Buffs Hoagie Sale. The Sixth Graders knocked it out-of-the-park! Over 650 Hoagies were ordered just from MS students! Remember that $1.25 will be donated into a Charms Savings Account for each hoagie sold!
