2016 WMS Board Report
Year in Highlights
SCIENCE BOB
The biggest highlight of the year was winning the School Library Journal's contest and having Bob Pflugfelder, aka SCIENCE BOB visit our school. I entered the contest in collaboration with Ms. Purvis's STEM classes creating random acts of science, where student groups picked one of the experiments from one of his books and recreated it using materials supplied by the library's MakerSpace. The rest is history and the students loved having him at school and started out our school year with a BANG!! Below is a link to one of the experiments he did at the assembly.

Bob in the Classrooms

The Assembly
The highlight of the day was the interactive assembly and all the cool science experiments.
Reading Adventures
Several groups of students got to participate in some field trips that were sponsored trough the library. Fifty students got to go see the movie "Middle School Worst Years of My Life" on Opening Day, by reading the book and taking a RC quiz. 7th & 8th grade ELA Honor students got the opportunity to go to the Children's Literature Festival of the Ozarks at MSU this fall. All students read books by the authors and took RC quizzes before going to the festival to familiarize themselves with the author's works. They were able to see 2 award winning authors and hear about their writing process, what inspires them, and to ask the authors questions.
