Upcoming Dates to Note

Synchronous Learning Day

Due to the holiday and schools being closed on Monday, January 18th, the schedule shifts, and Wednesday turns into a full class day instead of just Advisory/homeroom. Glance at this calendar and make sure you fill out the attendance forms for your classes on the right days!

Washington County Restrictions and the FLEX Office

With the current restrictions in place for Washington County, the FLEX Online School office will have limited in-person service. Appointments for picking up items can be scheduled on Monday, Wednesdays, and Fridays. The office staff has access to the school phone system and will continue to answer phones during school hours Monday-Friday, 7:30am-4pm. If we somehow miss your call, please leave a voicemail message and we will return your call promptly. We can also be reached by email at flex-online-school@beaverton.k12.or.us . Families can also reach out to their child's teacher in Canvas. Thank you for your patience.

We would also like to invite parents and learning coaches to join us this coming Tuesday for our next meeting.

9th Grade

This Lit & Comp assignment was to read 3 different poems, choose their favorite, and then create a visual of the themes and metaphors that they noticed. This is one student's assignment (shared with permission). Click the PDF below to view the entire thing.

Nice work, Asha!

Tech Tips

Logging In

Remember to make sure the student (not the parent) is logged into their BSD Google Account to fill out attendance and access meetings!

Using Zoom on Chromebooks

  1. Only have 1 tab of Zoom open at a time
  2. Limit how many other tabs are open in your browser
  3. When the teacher shares their screen, turn the student's camera off

If you need technology support, contact the student help desk:

Enrollment for Next Year (2021-2022 school year)

If your child is currently enrolled at FLEX Online, you do NOT need to fill out an application for next year.

If you have a child currently enrolled at FLEX and want to enroll any siblings, you MUST enroll them separately using the link below.

Enrollment is open year round, subject to staffing and school capacity. Due to our unique curriculum and approach, we encourage you to consider enrolling at the beginning of the year or at the mid-year semester break only.

Marathon Kids (K-5)

We are so excited to roll out the Marathon Kids Program at FLEX Online School! Marathon Kids is a Nike sponsored program designed to promote fitness, good health, and enthusiasm for exercise. Beaverton K-5 students are invited to participate in this fun program which is centered on logging miles/distance little by little to reach marathon distances.

Kids can run, walk, roll, and play their way to completing marathons. Any heart-pumping activities your child completes at home will count! Miles can be earned either through recording actual distances ex. "My child ran 1 mile" or through other heart-pumping activities (5 min= .25 miles).

Through the BSD and Marathon Kids partnership, you’ve been invited to follow your child’s progress and submit miles from home. You will receive an email from noreply@marathonkids.org inviting you to register with their platform so you can submit miles for you student.

2nd Annual Walk + Roll Art Contest

BSD students in grades K-5 are encouraged to enter the 2nd Annual Walk + Roll Art Contest. This year’s theme is “Places We Love to Walk + Roll.” The deadline to enter is January 29. The grand prize is a new bicycle from WashCo Bikes. Visit www.beaverton.k12.or.us/safe-routes for contest details.

Resolve to Be More Active!

January is the perfect time to build new healthy habits. Try to incorporate a walk or bike ride into your daily routine. The CDC recommends children get 60 minutes of daily physical activity.

In Case You Missed It Items:

After School Clubs

We have several clubs running now including Pokemon, art, writing and more! These are a great way for students to connect and meet other students who share their interests. Students can ask their Homeroom or Advisory teacher to find out how to sign up. Information about our current clubs and when they meet on is our website.

Chromebooks - Grades 3-12

If you still have an older model Chromebook “R11”, please come get it exchanged for a new “Spin” model that has a stylus. All students in grades 3-12 should have this new version, and it will be required for middle and high school students taking art next semester.

See photos to help determine which you have.

To exchange your Chromebook, please email flex-online-school@beaverton.k12.or.us or call 503-356-3720 to set up a time.

Stay in the Know

We use the SchoolMessenger notification system to send automated phone calls, emails and texts to parents, guardians, students and staff. These messages include return-to-school information, important messages and reminders, attendance notifications and inclement weather messages. Visit the BSD SchoolMessenger webpage for more information.

You can update your notification preferences via SchoolMessenger InfoCenter or by downloading the app. Check out this quick video on how to manage your account.

Tell Us Your Story!

We would love your help to tell the story of our school and the families that make our school community so special. We will use this information on our school website to help other students and families know more about our school. Use our online form to tell your story and even upload a photo if you have one!

If you already given feedback, thank you so much!

Thanks for reading!
