The Ritenour Review
2017 - 2018 Fourth Grade Weekly News
New Friends
Welcome, Misaki. I am beyond proud of the entire class for embracing Miss Misaki this week and going out of their way to be kind and help. Kaidin has been, by far, our biggest helper! He has gone above and beyond any of my expectations. I know the whole class has been proud of his leadership skills this week to help our newest friend.
This past week:
In math, we kicked off our division unit. As you read in a previous e-mail, we started working with partial quotients. Honestly, as a whole, they are taking to this strategy beautifully. We practiced with a few conversion word problems with our new strategy and they did smashingly well!
In reading, we continued working with our historical fiction book club members. We are still working on analyzing perspective. The BIG jump into fourth grade is for them to respect the characters' experiences and time period in their responses. We are still working daily on this skill.
In science, we are working with erosion and deposition in different soil compositions and landform changes. We concluded the week with student-directed experiments to identify different changes to the landforms and soil breakdown. I was BLOWN AWAY by their creative and thought-provoking investigation questions.
Coming up next!
Math: We will continue using partial quotients with word problems and add angle measurements into our skill list this week.
Reading: We will look for the theme and central ideas within our books.
Science: We will continue looking into soil erosion and deposition.
Writing: We will pick short literature pieces we are passionate about and we will write literary essays supporting our thesis built from the stories.
