Horace Mann Happenings
November 9, 2018
Message from the Principal
It is winter coat season! Our children go outside every day if even for a few minutes. Please make sure your child is dressed for the weather with appropriate footwear, coats, hats, and gloves.
Inclement Weather Policy Reminder
Horace Mann Laboratory School will be closed due to inclement weather IF the Maryville Public Schools are closed before school begins. HMLS will NOT begin late or dismiss early due to weather unless Northwest deems it necessary. Please use your best judgment and there is no penalty to children if they arrive late or leave early when weather conditions exist. Decisions made in the early morning hours or late evening hours will be given to KNIM and KXCV radio stations.
We encourage parents to sign up for the Horace Mann Text Caster; you will receive texts regarding HMLS. Sign up at: http://my.textcaster.com/ServePopup.aspx?id=1003
Extended care (K-6) is available for children that are enrolled in after-school childcare BEARCAT CLUB on days Horace Mann is closed for inclement weather. Horace Mann DOES NOT dismiss early (during the school day) for inclement weather. Parents may choose to pick up their child early due to hazardous road conditions. Safety is the top priority. If Northwest is closed, school and child care are also closed.
Thank You,
Mrs. King

Class Competition- “CANstruction”; Pantry/Canned Food Drive
Each classroom is asked to collect pantry dry and canned food goods for the Northwest Missouri State on-campus Food Pantry. Once collected, use the donated pantry food and goods to create a “Thankful Scene” to be judged on Nov. 19 after school. The winning class will help deliver the donated goods and receive an all-day library reading lock-in, at lead teacher & library’s convenience. Outside of each classroom, an area will be taped off where the artwork is to be placed for judging. Along with an art explanation form, to be provided at a later date to the teacher.
The canned art will be judged on:
- Connection to Thankfulness Theme
