Barrett Team Adventures
November 21, 2016
Dear UMAC,
After Thanksgiving break we will begin our winter round of MAP testing. Our class will be taking both the math and reading test the first week of December. This round of testing serves as a checkpoint for determining whether students are on track for meeting their spring MAP goal. Students have revisited their goals that were set in both math and reading after our fall testing. Be sure to ask your child what his/her goals are for the year and what have they been doing to attain those academic goals.
Have a wonderful holiday!

Literacy Learning
Students will take their Trimester 1 ELA assessment this week. This is not something that they need to study for, they have been practicing these skills all trimester. In this unit, readers are able to:
Compare and contrast texts written from first and third person points of view.
Analyze elements of literature, along with character’s thoughts and actions, to determine common themes in a variety of traditional literature.
- Use context clues and vocabulary knowledge/ strategies to determine the meaning of unknown words and phrases.
Math
New Friends- Unit 3 will extend the concepts used in multiplication to teach your child division. The main goals of this unit are:
Learn methods for dividing whole numbers up to four digits.
Use estimates to check of reasonableness of answers.
Solve problems using division and remainders.
As we work toward building fluency with multiplication and division, it’s important to spend a few minutes each night reviewing multiplication and division facts.
