Returning to our Faith, In-Person
As COVID numbers continue to trail downwards and the number of vaccinations trend upwards, here is another sign of life returning "back to normal" after a long and difficult year.
On May 20, the Catholic of Bishops of New Jersey released this statement welcoming Catholics back to church and lifting the dispensation beginning the weekend of Sunday, June 6:
"Therefore, we the Catholic Bishops of New Jersey, are lifting the dispensation of the Sunday and Holy Days Mass obligation beginning on Saturday, June 5, 2021, and Sunday, June 6, 2021, Solemnity of the Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ. We welcome the Christian faithful to return to the regular participation in the Sunday Eucharist, the source and summit of our Catholic faith."
In Family Faith, we believe that at every age, we grow our faith through learning from the lessons of the Bible, experiencing love and relationships with family, and reflection and prayer at Mass. Returning to weekly Mass provides these teaching opportunities for your children to listen and see God's works. For these reasons, as our Family Faith program remained virtual this year, we used the Sunday Mass Readings as a basis for these Weekly Newsletters to help in supporting our faith teaching at home. After a most difficult, long year, this is an exciting time to now be encouraged and be able to return to Mass in person!
Mass Readings for Sunday, May 30: The Solemnity of the Most Holy Trinity
In this weekend's Gospel, Matthew shares the story Jesus sending the disciples into the world to build His church and share the good news of the Gospel.
Before His Ascension, Jesus gave the disciples an important task: they were to go into “all the world” and spread the Gospel to others. This was not just a command for the twelve, but for all of us. Sharing the Good News is not a chore, however, but a blessing. We are agents of God’s will, and we have opportunities to serve Him and make His name known to those near and far!
In this Great Commission, we are called to love and serve one another, and to share the Gospel with those around us. This might be people far away, or it might be those close to us! Even as children, there are so many ways we can communicate God’s love. We can tell people about God, and we can also live as His people by demonstrating genuine care for one another. Everyone, everywhere is our mission field!
Activities for Family
Walking with Jesus
In this activity, children are reminded to GO out into the world, as Jesus told his disciples, and spread the Good News. By having your child create a stamp of their footprint, you can save this craft as a keepsake!
Materials
- 2-3 Sheets of Different Colored Paper
- Ink pad or Paint for Stamping Footprint
- Scissors
- Glue Stick or Tape
- Markers and Other Decorating Materials
Procedure
- On one sheet of colored paper, use the ink pad, paint, or trace your child's footprint. Cut it out around the perimeter of the footprint.
- Glue the footprint to another color paper.
- With the marker, write the words, "Walk with Jesus!"
- Using different decorating materials, decorate your project!
Project IMt
- Starting May 1st, standard driver's licenses and non driver IDs became available to residents who have an ITIN or are willing to obtain a letter from the Social Security Administration (SSA) stating they are ineligible for an SSN.
- The MVC has stated individuals who do not have either a SSN or ITIN will be able to provide an affidavit to meet this requirement, starting around June 1.
- The MVC requires all individuals to prove their identity, their age, and that they reside in New Jersey under the 6-points of ID system.
