Our Highlights: What We've Been Rockin' At!
What a busy and fun time we have been having! As you know, we finished up our People Who Made a Difference unit and the students did their best! They gave each other peer critiques and also got feedback from their big buddies before it came to our showcase day. One on the reasons that I love this unit so much is because they learn so much about each other's people almost as much as their own person. There are always such great and interesting difference makers chosen- the joy of letting students have voice and choice!
At the end of the unit, we did a Google Doodle of our person, but instead of it saying "Google" it says our person's name. It was amazing to see student knowledge about their person come out in a different way, as a creative sketch that illustrates their difference maker so well!
In math, we've been learning about everything from shapes to money and time, and even graphing. What better way to graph than to play games while doing it? Rock, Paper, Scissors graphing is so much fun!
In reading, we will begin our Book Club groups when we get back from break. Book Clubs are a great way to get these growing readers discussing their novels in a dynamic way. Students make their top picks for books, get placed in a club, read, do roles, and discuss the book together when we meet as a group. Former Rock Stars always say that Book Clubs were one of their favorites!
As we delve into our next writing time, we will explore both persuasive writing and poetry. So, if you notice that your little one begins challenging you with their opinion and tries to persuade you during this time...I apologize! Hopefully, they have great supporting details and a mind-blowing conclusion, though!
Rockin' and Rollin' into the Future!
Reading: Different forms of writing. We will explore speeches, song lyrics, instructions, and poetry.
Writing: As students finish up their biography books, we will begin learning about persuasive writing and how to support an opinion with supporting details.
Social Studies: We will begin our travel unit and begin exploring the world. Students will be researching one country and trying to persuade someone why they should travel to that country. Students will be presenting their arguments and artifacts on Open House night.
