laughing But crying (INTERNAL CHARACTERIZATION)
This picture shows a perfect representation of how Ishmael was feeling when the rebels captured him because when he was captured they were interrogating a old man and they made him fall and they tell him to get back up. The story states "the rebels laughed at him and made is laugh with them pointing their guns at us. I laughed loudly, but i was crying internally and my legs and hands trembled." This quote is a good quote explaining the concept of the way he was feeling he was scared and you can tell by the context of trembled which is used very often with Ishmael.
Uganda army of children (HISTORICAL CONNECTION)
Children are being kidnapped at night gunpoint. Boys and girls alike, many of them under the age of ten, are recruited in this way for the Lord's Resistance Army . They are handed guns and forced to fight against the Ugandan army. Some of the young girls are even made to serve as concubines for LRA (Lord's Resistance Army) leaders. This relates to Ishmael because in the story he was captured by the rebels and the rebels say "We are going to initiate all of you by killing these people in front of you . We have to do this to show you blood and make you strong... Don't worry, guys, the next killing is on you,"another rebel commented, and laughed." this quote is stating that they are taking young man or children and training them so they kill for them.
House in a unknown village (SETTING)
This house is what sound and looks like Ishmael was describing in chapter 6 about the house in an unknown village where they stayed for a while and started farming at.
How Ishmael described this place was "Sitting on the verandah of a house in a unknown village... Three miles from the village was a big hill From the top, one could see as a mile down the path towards the village." this quote is explaining the place and where the group of them were staying for a long time without being spotted by the rebels.
Trembled (VOCABULARY)
This word is very significant because the author said this word many times to represent a lot of emotion Fear, Anger, Sadness. shake involuntarily, typically as a result of anxiety, excitement, or frailty. is the meaning of this word and this word. This word is used in the story lots. The story states "most of us who had been chosen were trembling and that meant we were sissies." This quote is saying they were sissies or they were scared the rebels knew that because they were trembling.
Verandah (VOCABULARY)
Verandah is used when the group of six including Ishmael.
When Ishmael states "Sitting on the Verandah of a house in an unknown village". this quote states where the house is place. the meaning of this quote is a roofed, open-air gallery or porch. A veranda is often partly enclosed by a railing and frequently extends across the front and sides of the structure.
Man vs. society (CONFLICT)
the main conflict is a character going against society, that is a man versus society conflict. In this case Ishmael is the protagonist and he is having to go against society or he is having to go against the rebels not just rebels though they also have to go against people of there own because people are attacking them because they think they are part of rebels so the main conflict is man vs. society.
Man vs. self (CONFLICT)
these chapters also had a man vs. self conflict because he was fight himself on how to help him self as of the way he thinks have lots of doubt about himself and things related to that.
