Dismissal on rainy days

Please note that on rainy days students will be dismissed from the classrooms. While we make every effort to update parents via school messenger and social media, sometimes we do not have enough time to do so.

Room parents needed

Calling all parents! We are currently looking for room moms/dads. If you are interested please get with your child's teacher and visit to complete your application.

As young children begin school, the focus should be on cultivating a love of learning, and assigning too much homework can undermine that goal. And young students often don’t have the study skills to benefit fully from homework, so it may be a poor use of time (Cooper, 1989; Cooper et al., 2006; Marzano & Pickering, 2007). A more effective activity may be nightly reading, especially if parents are involved. The benefits of reading are clear: If students aren’t proficient readers by the end of third grade, they’re less likely to succeed academically and graduate from high school (Fiester, 2013).

At Menger Elementary, we ask that students spend at least 20 minutes each night reading. A small amount of math practice will also be sent home. Homework is never taken for a grade.

Our team realizes the importance of family time, and extra curricular activities and we will keep assigned homework to a minimum.

Our Menger PTA has purchased a school license for Education Galaxy which can be used for additional practice online. Students will receive login information so that this site can be accessed at home.
