Busy BEE News
Week of June 4, 2018
Highlights of Our Week
Readers' Workshop:
- As readers, we learned more about Text and Graphic Features. To reinforce our skills, we became text surgeons! We looked through magazines for various text and graphic features. Then, we cut them out and labeled each type of feature. We also added how the text or graphic feature helps us with reading comprehension. Be sure to check out our surgical photos below!
- We read and discussed our Journeys selection entitled, Working in Space. We talked about the various text and graphic features within the story and how those features enhanced our reading experience.
Writers' Workshop:
- As writers, we wrote a good introduction and conclusion for our presentations. We reviewed and discussed what are some good hooks to make our listeners want to hear more about our career. What can we do to make our listener leave with a good feeling about what we presented? We look forward to presenting our completed projects to our fourth grade buddies next week!
Mathematicians:
- As mathematicians, we solved number stories using arrays. We also learned how to write addition and multiplication number sentences for the arrays.
- We also began to learn the 5 and 10 times tables by skip counting coins.
Social Studies:
- We worked on researching a career that interests us for our Career Share Presentation Projects. We researched a career using books, digital books on Epic!, and the internet. Then we created a digital brochure using Google Classroom. We typed details about our career and then added photos to the brochure.
Science:
- We observed our Brassica Seeds and learned how the plant grows its own seeds. We will observe the plants as they dry out and gather the seeds created so next year's second grade class can grow the seeds!
Other Activities:
- We had some awesome Career Share presentations this week! Be sure to check out the highlight photos below!
- Mrs. Horne and a few of her musicians visited our class today to talk about "String" Instruments. As third graders, the children will have the opportunity to learn and play stringed instruments under Mrs. Horne's tutelage. Be sure to check out the photos below.
- We had our friends and parents visit our classroom for an End-of-the-Year Celebration. We are so proud to show off all of our hard work and share our future goals!
